^^the drivers side has a plug also.......if you simple unplug the drivers side, the air bag light would come on in the dash.......the passanger side doesn't throw the light on because of the keyed disconnect that is programed into the computer...

i have taken mine out 100 times without disconnecting the battery........the only way that the wires to the airbag will get electricity (unless you purposly touch a 12v wire to the connector) is if the front crash sensors are set off....

I would not hold my breath on that, being a fireman you will see then go off one day of of the blue... Been there done that... Needed a few changes of underwear! Be safe, disconnect the battery.. Better to take a minute to be safe then an eternity of dead!

My '97 doesn't have a passenger airbag. It has a wire connector that plugs into the dash plate cover, but no airbag. Funny thing about it is if you unplug the wire, the airbag light comes on. I guess it was "prewired" for an airbag.

I just got done taking apart the passenger side air bag.

This picture is the removal all said and done and put back.

This is the air bag assembly from the back. The internals have been removed. Dont mind the red duct tape, its holding the plastic outer section to the metal backing plate.

here are the two peices that are inside the air bag assembly.

the bad thing is though that an airbag new cost around $2000......it can be the difference in a totaled vehicle and a repairable vehicle....
