door ajar light
door ajar light
hi folks. This is my first post and hopefully someone can help me. I have a 2003 Ranger extended cab and the door ajar light stays on. i can't find any switches on the doors. can anyone help. Also the right rear lower door latch doesn't latch.
Welcome to the forum
The switches are inside the doors, they are not the old plunger style used in the door jambs
The door switch Closes when door is open, and Opens when door is closed.
It is a Ground switch, so ground = door open, no ground door closed
So if you unplug a switch it would disable door ajar issue on that door
Try WD40 in the door latch, like this: https://www.f150online.com/galleries...633-119116.jpg
The front door switch is at the bottom of the latch so the WD40 runs down inside it and hopefully it will start working again
Rear doors are different, and if they are not closing tight then the door ajar light will be on and CORRECT, the rear door is ajar, lol.
You can take the rear door panel off, and reach down inside and unplug the door switch, its on the lower latch, so it can't Ground any longer and if that was the reason for the door ajar light it will be off now
On the front doors you have to remove door panel and then remove door latch to replace those switches, they twist lock into position so can be twisted with latch in place, but not as hard as it sounds

Okay, thanks for the reply. I will look into tackling this but my door latch bolts are stripped so I may just have to deal with it. LOL
