Door switch not working on drivers side
Door switch not working on drivers side
Hi all, I’ve just got a ranger and there’s an annoying little problem that when I open either the front or rear door on the drivers side, the light won’t come on, nor the door ajar light, it also locks itself and the alarm goes off if I’m not quick. The passenger side doors work fine.
Thanks
Thanks
Welcome to the forum
Rangers were made from 1983 to 2012
1999 was first full year of the 4 door option, but some late 1998 had them
Point is WHAT YEAR is YOUR Ranger, lol
Each of the doors has its own door switch, the switch is OPEN when door is closed, when door is open switch is CLOSED and a GROUND to the GEM module, which activates the Dome light and or the Door "ajar" light
The drivers door has its own switch and its own wire to the GEM
The other 3 doors SHARE a wire to the GEM, so if any one of the 3 doors shows a GROUND then door ajar light should be on
Seen in below in a 2003 diagram
Most people say spraying the door latch mechanism will fix a sticky door switch

Yes, thats all the door switch is, one wire goes to SJB(smart junction box), and the other to a Ground
SJB replaced GEM as the Body computer in 2004 model year
SJB is in passenger side kick panel
When door is closed switch is pushed OPEN so no Ground to SJB, when door is opened then switch closes so SJB gets a ground
Grounded wire should turn on the Door Ajar light
So a shorted to body wire would also turn on door ajar light
I don't have a 2009 door switch wiring diagram, but Rangers didn't have Factory alarms, Ford Dealers installed them or 3rd party
So my "guess" is that the door switches on drivers side go to this alarm, wires are Tapped, and the connection to the SJB is no longer passing to the SJB, so no door ajar light, but the alarm module is still getting the ground when door is opened
So I would try to locate the alarm module, get its model number then look it up to see if you can find a wiring diagram for it

So I found a bank of 4 relays and a computer in the drivers kick panel ( obviously not moved it for the RHD) and the red/yellow tracer wire that comes from the door is a clean run with no breaks straight to the relay. Could my problem just be a faulty relay?
Oops missed the Right hand drive(RHD) part
Yes SJB would be in drivers side kick panel
I have this diagram, attached, for 2009 Ranger
It shouldn't used relays for the door sensors, just a transistor in the module/computer, hi/lo detector
And it does look like each door sensor has its own wire to the module in 2009
