i booted the useless little cubby hole over top of the drink holder console, took the pas. airbag switch off, put it up inside the dash, and mounted my cobra 148 right under the climate controls. looks nce and neat, great access, and it faces "up" s you can see the meter and *****. sorry, no pics, but i think you get my drift..

Decide what your needs are; before purchasing !!!

Members on this forum have mounted different size CB and Ham radios in a variety of locations... Give thought to what works best for you !!!!
The bigger the radio..... the harder it will be to locate a convenient and practical place to mount.
My '00 Ranger has a Yaesu FT 1500M 2 meter radio and microphone under the armrest inside the recessed area and a Cobra 148 GTL "old style" CB radio diagonally mounted to the glove compartment door with a frequency counter installed in the little recessed area to the right of the passenger air bag key.
While there are some members that have gone with Export radios, Amatuer radios and even HF radios in their trucks.... (I have tried several myself), but I have decided upon simplicity, durabilty, ease of use and price when I went back to "Old Reliable". Anyone that knows about or has had any experience with CB radios should agree..... that the Cobra 148 GTL is probably one of the most durable, modifiable and sought after SSB radios around.
This particular radio has experienced temperatures below freezing in the mountains and above 100* in the desert for most of its life along with alot of trail dust and even was bounced around when I turtled my 98 Jeep Cherokee two years ago in Moab, Utah; and still continues to provide great performance.
My antenna of choice is a Sirio 4000PL 7/8 wave antenna with a Wilson 5000 magnet mount. The original coax was damaged and upgraded to LMR 240.
While others may have their own opinions...; this setup works exceptionally well for me !!!

I moved the passenger airbag switch to behind the dash (and on) and mounted the cb where it used to go. Initially I had it on with wireties, but it sqeaked too much so I cut up the floor console and it rests about 2" down now..

make sure ya get a PA speaker when ya get it all set up, you can have hours of fun on one..
