Engine swap

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and not sure this is the right place to ask this question.

I have two reg cab rangers, one is 2004 and the other a 2007 both with 2.3l engine.

I want to replace the 2004 engine with the 2007 but the ecu connectors look different. Is this a huge deal? Can the ecu and wire harness also be swapped?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum

Yes, they changed computer style in 2007
No, don't swap computers

Use the 2007 engine with the 2004 wiring harness and 2004 computer

You will need to use the rear metal coolant line that has the Temp Sender on it, with the 2007 engine, as that was also dropped in 2007

Starting in 2004 the engine computers where "married" to the HEC(digital dash) at the Factory because PATS(passive anti-theft system) was in the digital dash now
It prevents people from swapping in lower miles odometers/clusters

You could swap 2007 computer and it's cluster into the 2004, but there would also be some cab wiring to do, not sure how involved that would be
Also swap PATS keys/ignition cylinder

Most of the engine wiring should match up, if not swap intakes
