Well, last night I made a version of a decoder to detect the 4 high position and mounted it in the truck. I have a surplus of automotive relays laying around because of stuff I bought to make fan controllers at one point. The decoder requires 2 relays and an LED, no other components are required.

So now I can see when the truck hits 4 high and I can bump it into that too. Before I only had the 2 positions I could use. I added a light for the third position. It's even a bigger mess in my console than it was before, lol.

Why did I use two more relays -- because I had them and it was easy to build in the truck.

Okay, here's a picture of the new "mess".

There are two more relays to mount: one for the neutral safety switch control of the ability to go in 4 low, and an additional relay to stop the t-case when it gets to 4 high range. That should be about it. I may just use this rather than the more sophisticated circuit I drew up, lol. It's expensive with all these relays but I already had them and it works.

DOH! Why didn't I think of that... ...of course, the fact that my truck was 2WD and didn't have one of those knobby jobby's could explain why it was a mystery to me at least, lol.

Well, 2 more relays in there. I now have a relay that can stop it at 4HIGH so I can shift while moving, and then an override relay that allows 4LO. Later, the override relay will be driven by the neutral safety switch but for now it's just a manual switch to enable the movement to 4LO.
