Frozen bolts holding brake caliper, 1997 xlt 4x4, 4.0L
Pretty much as title puts it. 1997 xlt, 4x4 4.0L engine
I cannot remove caliper bracket 15mm bracket bolt. I have cleaned, penetrating lubed, then heated with a torch. When the bolts rounded I bought a good set of RocketSocket extractors. Nothing.
I am using a 1/2" pneumatic impact gun. I have used 2 foot breakers only to strip the bolt heads completely on the passenger side.
Considering moving forward, heat the area then dry ice freeze the bolt? Get a cutting torch?
Should I just grind the bolt heads off, drill, and use an extractor? Never have had much luck with extractors. Considering all the options.
Thanks!

If you stripped the bolt heads did you F up and grab the wrong socket originally ? Not judging.. We've all done it 😅.
If I got to the point where you are, I would've just hammered on the bolt extractor, heated it up, and brace yourself so you don't bust your arm when the bolt either snaps or finally lets go.
How'd it turn out for you?

Old enough to know better... /s
Thanks for the suggestion of hammering on the adapter. Will try that when I get off my butt and finish it.
Decided to go to the other side before before I decided what to do with the side I screwed up. Convinced myself I needed a nice set of Tekton 6 point sockets and a 2 foot breaker bar and voila!
I will let you know when I get the bad ones off.

The caliper holder bolts are usually 80ft/lb at least, some are higher, so you for sure need a breaker bar, the longer the better
And use Lock-tite when you torque them back on, have caliper holder both come off is a very, very....................very bad thing
Look it up, but I think most years are 85ft/lb
