Headlights Left On Warning Piezo Buzzer Install

I own a 2004 Ford Ranger 4X4 4.0 . This truck doesn't have a
headlight left on warning buzzer. I was made aware that there
were kits available that were installed at the fuse panel,
[head lamp fuse] , and grounded through the door switch .
I haven't found a video or anything pertaining to the ranger
truck so i thought there might be one of you who has installed
one of these alarms and can get me to a wiring diagram to
simplify the install process.

Go here to get 2004 Ranger owners manual: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
Search/Find: headlamps
Ford doesn't call them headlights, lol

It says there should be a Key in ignition and a Headlight on warning chime when drivers door is opened, also chime warning for seat belt, they all share the same "chime module"

Do none of these work or just the headlight on chime doesn't work?

Previous owner may have cut wire to Chime to disable it, many do not like the warning chimes

Does the Door Ajar light come on when drivers door is opened?
If not then switch in the door is bad so can't activate the headlight on or key in ignition warning

Adding a headlight chime in 2004 Ranger
In the fuse box behind passenger side kick panel you will find Fuses 3 and 4, each 10amp
#3 is for passenger side low beam head light
#4 is for drivers side low beam head light

These fuses only have 12volts when headlights are on, so not the light switch fuse, they are the bulbs fuses, which is what you want, you can use either one
You would hook up the + wire of a 12volt buzzer/chime to this fuse.
Google: Fuse Tap

They come in different sizes to match different size fuse holders and should have second slot for second fuse for the Chime

The Door Switch is a GROUND switch
When door is closed switch is OPEN, no ground
When door is open switch is CLOSED, so a Ground
You will splice into this wire for the - connection on the chime, do not cut the wire, splice into it, i..e trailer wiring splice connectors
They look like this: https://www.acklandsgrainger.com/en/...PC:+Google+PLA

So if headlights are on Chime has 12v but no ground so its silent, if door is opened then Chime gets a Ground and starts to make noise

Below is the 2004 door switch wiring
Left Front Door is drivers door(on the left of diagram)

There is a Yellow/Black stripe wire that will run from the switch inside the door to the Smart Junction Box(SJB) which IS the fuse panel in the passenger side kick panel, so where fuses 3 and 4 are, convenient
But may be hard to find in the mass of wires at SJB

Might be easier to find behind Drivers side kick panel where it comes out of the door

Ok, I will check the system with my volt meter and see if i can get continuity with the head
lights on through the interior light ground when the door switch for the interior light is
depressed.

The door switch ground goes to SJB, SJB then turns on interior lights via a relay, so there is no connection between dome light and door switch

SJB is the Body Computer for interior electrics
i.e. there is no direct connection between Wiper switch and wiper motor, wiper switch connects to SJB, and SJB connects to wiper motor

Ok

There is no factory switch on either door , but the interior alarm works for all other functions,
door ajar etc. Is it possible that this feature was just left out?

RonD.
What about using the BLK/LT BLU wire for ground. I
shouldn't need a door switch, which doesn't exist.

That's not a Ground its a 12v wire with bulb between it and a full time Ground

So with headlights on Chime would come on and the Dome light would as well, slightly dim but bright enough

You need a Switched Ground

How does "factory alarm" work for door ajar without a door switch?

You can skip the door thing and just use a relay that will activate chime if headlights are on and key is off

Fuse 10, 10amp, has 12v when key is on, 0v key off
Get a 5 connection 12v relay, 85/86, 30, 87 and 87A
Run fuse 3(headlight power) to 30
Run fuse 10 to 85
Ground 86

Ground Chime module
Hook + wire on chime module to 87A
Nothing on 87

When key is off 30 and 87A are connected
When key is on 30 and 87A are disconnected

If headlights have power with key on nothing happens
If headlights have power with key off the chime module gets 12volts so makes noise

Automotive relay numbering here: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/images/m...iring-840x.jpg

You need the relay and the base for it
85 and 86 is a coil, it has no polarity so either can be ground and the other 12v

SOLUTION

I dug around and was able to find an article that suggested lubricating the key
to clean the internal mechanism of the ignition switch!!! Walla, the light warning
system started to work immediately!!! Can you believe that even a local Ford
Dealership wasn't able to tell me that the lights on with key out alarm feature
was part of this Trucks capability!!! Half a day on line and i was lucky to find
someone else who found someone else that had the same problem!!!

Lucky Me!!!
