High Beam Yes-Low Beam No

Howdy,

Went out and started 1992 Ranger 2WD 3.0L this morning and turned on lights. Low Beams came on for 2-3 seconds and both went out at same time. Hit High Beam on wiper arm and High Beams work. Back and forth a few times.....only High Beams. Drove that way until daylight, tried again still no Low Beams. 40 AMP in engine compartment looks fine. This has regular push-pull headlight switch on dash with twist for interior light and dash dimmer all working. Wiper arm activates High Beam. Does the Low Beam circuit run through that Wiper Arm switch? I saw something about springs and connection returning to center, but my Low Beams came on "and then went out", so connection was made upon starting. Wiper arm not moved until High Beam test.

Any help would be appreciated, Happy Holidays everyone,

HBRector

Yes, the high beams use a separate fuse so you have "flash to pass"(turn signal arm) without head light switch being on

The low beams also run thru turn signal arm switch, so they are switched off when high beams are on full time

Could be main light switch or turn signal switch(multi-function switch), if fuse is OK

I don't have a wiring diagram for 1992 lights, sorry

Not sure if 1992 had option for DRL(Daytime Running lights), but if so then that module might effect low beams, it shouldn't because it used a separate fuse to power low beams when main light switch was off

Closest diagram I have is 1994

Thanks much. There is no DRL. The "separate fuse" you refer to.......is that in interior fuse box? The fact that both LB's went at same "moment" suggests fuse. I will see if I can find interior fuse box diagram because under hood is only one 40 AMP at second position.

Thanks again,

High beam fuse is in the cab fuse box, but not your problem, its just for high beams, nothing to do with low beams

There are only single wires for low beams until it splits to the 2 bulbs at the front of the truck
So yes a fuse could have blown but a single wire could have failed as well and both bulbs go off

Power for low beams

Fuse(in engine bay fuse box)------(firewall)------------------main light switch--------multi-function switch-------------(firewall)--------------(rad support)--< splits to two bulbs

The bulbs would share a common Ground on the rad support, but that should effect high beams as well, but don't know that for sure

Sounds like multi-function switch.

Thanks!
