If you ever get stuck in a position where you need to open your hood and there is nobody to help you, remember my method. Just shove something between the hood and the grille and it should pop up for you when you go back and pull on the latch. The item doesn't have to be jammed in there, just set to give enough pressure to pop the hood up.

Help! My hood isn't opening and none of the methods discussed here have worked. Pulling the wire does nothing and it is not cut anywhere along the way. I've tried pushing down on the hood while pulling the release lever, pulling up on the hood, banging the hood...Is there any other way to get it to open up? The dealership said it would be around 70$ for them to do it!

Greetings from a Bowtie Guy.
I did not want to start a new thread and clutter up the forum. I am driving my brother’s truck why he is out of town. I own a 1 ton and his little 4 banger gets a tad bit better gas mileage than my 7.4L LOL
Anyways, it’s a 94 Ranger. I am having the exact opposite of this. The hood won’t latch. I did the breaks over the weekend and now I can’t get the hood to fully close. You can push it down all you want but the latch is not engaging. I had a friend watch the latch mechanism while I pulled the cable release and nothing moved. It also feels as if there is no tension on the latch.
Could this cable be cut or frayed somewhere? Where are the typical areas to look at? Could anything else be causing this?
Thanks for you’re help.

Exactly...Used to have to do that with my 95. The metal bracket attached to the handle was bending (i guess because it was 15yrs old) so I just made a new metal bracket....works perfect now....Used to have to push down directly on top of the latch while someone pulled the thing inside.

This recently happened to my Ranger,..I got the hood opened by sticking a long flat-head screw driver between the the grill on the driver side of the hood lock mechanism where the cable attaches to open the hood. Has anyone replace the cable? It's anywhere from $32-$60 on Ebay,...too expensive to me. Battery acid corroded my cable where it is routed behind the battery. I cut the cable where it broke and removed about 1/2 inch of plastic casing to expose the metal cable where I can pull it to open the hood til I fix it correctly. Thanks in advance.
