How do I tell what gas tank size I have in my '91 Ranger extended bed. I know the ~16 gallon one is standard and the ~19 gallon is optional. Besides the obvious way of just fill it from empty (gas is expensive for a high schooler) is their any external clues on the gas tank its self such as shape or wrighting on it? If someone has a side by side comparison picture that would be very helpful.

I was gonna say run it out fill it up. My gas tank isn't marked anywhere, I just know I put 15 gal in when I'm just above E so I assume its 16.

The other way would be to find a ranger you know has a 16 gal and compare it to yours.

 

Knowing that one gallon = 231 in^3, you may be able to measure the gas tank, finding the approx volume, then convert that to gallons, and if you've been careful with the tape measure, you should be able to determine which of the two it is. Of course, if the tank shape is sloped, tapered and pretty much not a nice rectangle, this isn't gonna work so well.
