I messed up bad and I need Help
I recently bought a Pioneer radio to put in my Ranger and It came with a different hook-up harness. We cut all the original wires and spliced all the speakers to the new harness. The New harness has 12 wires and the old one has 15. After we wired the speakers we were left with 2 wires on the new one and 7 left on the old one. We completely forgot about the PATS (Anti-Theft) wires and we soon remember when we tried to crank the truck the up. We turned the key all the way and it did nothing, we pushed the clutch in and it ignited the Starter. Now the Truck wont move because the clutch ignites the starter and I have 3 weeks to learn Stick Shift. I need help.

What YEAR Ranger?
It would have to be 1999-2011 V6 to have PATS, but that covers alot of ground, wiring wise
PATS is not part of radio wiring or STARTER wiring
PATS won't ground starter relay if wrong key is used but thats all, there is no under dash wiring for that part
And your starter relay IS grounded if clutch pedal activates it, so that part is OK
Post your YEAR and I will post wiring diagram for START circuit

Here is the wiring for 2000 ranger start circuit
But I think I know what you did on the Radio wiring to cause this, 2000 Radio wiring here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...dio_Wiring.pdf
The RED/Black wire(fuse 28) on the Ranger side of harness was used to MUTE the factory radio when starting engine
So this wire should NOT be hooked up at all on 3rd party radio, just cut it and tape the end
If this wire was hooked up to/with a regular 12v wire then you would have what you describe, 12volts is back feeding to fuse 28, AND FUSE 24(start diagram) which activates starter motor when clutch pedal is down

97 2.3L needs help
is there a place to find clear starter relay diagram and wirif to and from alternator/coils/battery ? Ive had a ton of trouble with wires and looks like everything on this truck was replaced at some point by a real pro I am sure. But needless tp say pulling and tracing wire is very difficult and I am trying to replace when possible. Sorry to jump on someone's post but searched and found at some point then never found again

Your 2000 starter problem has nothing to do with a 97's radio problem

Looks like this for a 1997 Ranger: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-FORD-R...-/164152271317
These are "basically" FREE because you can resell them when you are done with them for what you paid for them
