So found out I have a bad passenger side lock actuator. I've been having issues with programming my key fob, I do the 8 cycle and it went do the lock unlock that it's supposed to do. Today I pull my door panel and testing everything come to find out I have a bad actuator. I know, because I was a Mazda/Hyundai/BMW certified tech that if one actuator is bad on those brands it will cause the fob not to work or be programmed with the system and in some cases not allow you to lock doors. Would the lock actuator cause the key fob not to be able to be programmed if it wasnt giving signal to the computer?

 

As far as I know..........No, actuator "motors" don't need to be connected or working when adding key fob to the "RAP" module, or RKE module

Is it a Ford keyless entry or 3rd party?
Many Rangers came with power door locks but NOT keyless entry, but the door locking and unlocking after 8 key cycles would mean a Ford system

 

@RonD I just got off the phone with Ford they said that if there isn't a return signal from the switch closing or opening that it will cause an issue with programming. I knew Mazda had done that because I fixed a few at the dealership and so does Hyundai. My Chevy I had before the ranger wouldn't lock by the fob unless all buttons were connected to as I was taking panel off to paint. I just wasn't sure if Ford was the same way.

But I would have to wonder about the sanity of an engineer that would require all parts of a "door lock system" to be in working order to initiate programming, I can see a warning light letting driver know a door isn't locked, after initiating "lock door" with button or Fob, but what would be the point of not allowing adding a Fob
