Not starting
Sorry this is my first post in here but i am hoping some one can help me out a bit. I have a 1988 2.9 ranger that drove just fine before the other day. I spent a good bit of time on saturday and sunday cleaning out the years of baked on oil. After word the truck would not start. I figured water just got down into somthing. So i let the truck dry out and sure thing the next day she started right up.
So i started my next project cleaning up the TB and upper intake manifold. I started to just use carb and injector cleaner but found the caked on oil and carbon just too much. So i pulled the TB and gave it a good cleaning. I also Dremel and smoothed out the upper part of the intake manifold just a hair to help get some of the carbon off and just smooth out the intake just a hair.
Now the truck just cranks and cranks. I was thinking it might be the TPS but could be way off. Starter fluid does not help and the truck does have spark.
Any imput would be welcome because i am lost.

It ended up being the TPS. I picked one up too day pluged it right in and the truck fired right up.
I also cut up a old cold air intake i had laying around from a friends car. It took a little work but it doesnt look too bad.
That brings up a point. Why does no one make a short ram or cold air kit for the 2.9 ranger it would only take two bends.

Ok we got her running again. I think it might have just been a issue with the ECU taking some time to learn with the new intake. Kind of strange being a older truck but it runs good now. The truck responds very well now and she will even pull hills in 5th gear at 55 mph. I am very happy with this little home made mod.
