One ignition key solved

Got a great deal on a Mazda B2300, needed a bit of work, but the biggest thorn in my side was only having one ignition key.
Local Mazda dealership wanted $500 - fpr one key!!!! (Campbell river Mazda)
Dealership in next town wanted $350 BUT a person who worked there suggested I call a locksmith, and gave me a name.
Bought a reprogramming kit and new ignition barrel off Amazon - $135 = didn't work = returned it
Called the locksmith - was quoted $150, but on the day it was $120 cash = bonus is it is still the same key so it works on doors. I have ordered a blank which I will program myself now..

I never thought I would be happy paying that much for one key, but I am.

I only got one PATS-chipped key when I bought my '09. A trip to the local hardware store with $75 netted me two new chipped keys.

Did the locksmith come out to the vehicle with a laptop or tablet to "add the new key"?
If not, then you have a CLONED key, which is fine, but it can not be used as a "2nd key" to add a 3rd key yourself

Cheapest way to get a duplicate PATS key is cloning a working key
In the handle of each PATS key is an RFID tag that has a unique number, no batteries required
When the vehicle is turned on, PATS gets the number from that key and compares it to a list of 2 to 4 keys in its memory(keys the vehicle came with when new)
If a Match is found then Computer will turn on fuel pump and injectors, if no match then no start

Cloning just takes the RFID Tag number from the working key and puts it on a 2nd key(or 3rd or 4th) so there is always a Match found and engine can be started
A Cloned key is no different than an original key, not better or worse, its just a key same as original
