yes steve, you were the one who created the tune. sending it loaded on an SCT X4 model 7015. i paid you for the tune and the tuner. i applied it with another unrelated one you also created. yet it would still not delete, and i couldnt at that time remove the transceiver thing and start it with a plain key. --just the same as i cannot now with a plain key. we communicated by email message through ebay messages. in our communications i gave you calibration codes that you said you found something workable. i gave you calibration identifier of PYFK1A9.HEX and a verification code of 5B 53 B1 DB. you later said the catch code for that was FZU4 that you could use that. SO, i guess thats the catch code, FZU4. i have never taken the computer out to look for these things, but a scanner i guess helped us then.... but through it all with a no start in spite of delete; at the end it was suggested i could try to send you the computer. which is what im asking you about here.

Ah yes, I remember this one now. If you want to send me the computer and the X4, I can try to figure out if the tune loaded ok, if the PCM is deleteable, if it all went like it should, etc. Send me the PCM, the X4 itself (protect it well), no cables necessary, and I will try to figure out what's going on with it.

There are a couple other posts by members saying the same thing about their threads, probably some glitch in the system.

Pontisteve, you wrote back on november 4 2019, "Dang it. It is entirely possible that grounding that yellow wire may not be necessary."

is that entirely true, or would i still need to put it to a ground point; to make the anti theft system fully disabled.??

New PATS Delete information!

As far as I know, it is necessary to cut and ground the yellow starter relay control wire running from the PCM to the starter relay. But we don't have to guess about this. If the car cranks, you don't have to do it. If the car doesn't crank at all, then you do. I'm pretty sure you do.

But hey, I have BIG news! I've recently found out that some of these 06-09 era Ranger PCMs are actually some of the earliest "E-PATS" computers. What that means is that deleting PATS in the PCM alone may not actually shut PATS off!!! In these types of PCM, it may be necessary to have me perform a modification to the PCM on the engineering level first, before you delete PATS. This was previously thought to only be an issue on 09-up PCMs, and even then not all of them. But in the last few months, we've discovered that this actually dates back as far as 2006 on just a few Ford models. And the Ranger is probably one of those models.

So if I have previously deleted PATS for you and it didn't work, I want you to contact me and make arrangements to send me your PCM (and your programmer, if you bought one from me), so I can perform this additional engineering step.

Thats great news Pontisteve! I recently wanted to move that yellow wire to a different ground. When I did, the engine wouldnt start. All I got was lights coming on at the instrument cluster. Not long tho, I realised that the extension wire I used to connect to the yellow, came loose from the pin. I didn't have time to rebuild it, so I put the pin back in the connector, plugged the connectors together and the truck started just fine. The separate starter ground isnt being used......

Prior to all this and your more recent replies here, I had in fact applied the delete tune you made for me; and the motor still starts. But all the while, I am still having to use the transceiver and transponder key. I do have a non transponder key, and the engine wont start. I also havent done the spark and injector test.

So yes, you did write me an anti theft delete tune, as well as one other but i cant think of its name. I bought them from you as well as an X4 tuner. Both tunes have been applied to the truck with the X4. But all this and I still hafta use the transceiver and transponder key to start the engine....

Are you saying that once ive sent you my computer and the X4, you could do this step you write about, and after ive reinstalled the computer; I could successfully start the truck without the transceiver and transponder key, --just using a plain non transponder key? And the truck would then, in fact, start with a non- Passive Anti Theft System??

Then, how would we make arrangements??

I think what's going on with your truck is that it's confusing you because there is nothing actually wrong with your truck or PATS system. If you had a broken PATS system, your truck wouldn't start and you would know if you succeeded or not in deleting PATS. But because there is actually nothing wrong with your PATS system, the only symptom you are getting is that it won't start with a non-PATS type of key.

This was confusing on our end too, because the industry's understanding of PATS is that this extra step I talked about is not required until maybe 2009, and even then it's not on all models. But in recent months, I've proved that's not true. This new way of doing PATS could date back as far as 2006 in some models. And I think the Ranger is one of those models, as I had to do this on a 2007 Ranger 4.0 and a 2008 Ranger 3.0. I've identified how to check and see if a PATS delete is successful on the bench, and what the process is for dealing with this newer E-PATS design.

Think of it like a light switch that sends power to a light switch that sends power to a light bulb. The first light switch is the engineering step, the second light switch is the PATS on/off switch in the calibration, and the light bulb is PATS being deleted. If you don't know about the first light switch, you can flick the second switch and not understand why the light bulb doesn't come on.

This new design mainly happens in 2011-up Fords, but in just a few models, we're finding it dates back as far as 2006. And the Ranger seems to be one of those models, as evidenced by my recent experience with the 07 and 08 Ranger PCMs I did. Now that we've discovered how to prove the process was successful or not on the bench, we can better tell what works and not rely on the vehicle to act up.

So that's the good news. The bad news is that you have to have Ford engineering tools (hardware and software) to do this (we do), and you also have to know the exact memory location of that 1st on/off switch. It's not stored in the calibration itself, which means no tuning software is going to be able to turn PATS off on these newer models. I can only assume that Ford did that on purpose. Maybe they didn't like the fact that the aftermarket has come up with a way to defeat PATS, and so they redesigned it a bit. I'm not sure if that's why it's like this, but it sounds feasible. So we can do them, but the only problem is knowing the exact memory address where this master on/off switch is stored. I have a lot of those addresses, but on the ones I don't have, it requires a reverse engineer to find that location. And unfortunately, this means a little more time and money, making deleting PATS on these newer models slightly more expensive.

yes steve, you are correct. there is nothing wrong with the truck or the anti theft system. when i personally see things (even after research) that i think are unnecessary or even needed; i do what i can to remove them. this has led to several modifications being done. one of which has improved my miles per gallon.

what i want to do here, is have it fully removed from the truck. literally making the truck like it was made without the anti theft system. im not talking a simple 'bypass' but literally and physically removing the system. re engineering the memory addresses. and being able to start the truck without the transceiver or transponder key. and use just a simple non transponder key in the ignition to start the engine.

so yes, there is nothing wrong with the truck or the system, but i do want to go forward with this. i technically dont have any extra money right now. but lets talk about the arrangements, and how to contact you when i am ready to send the computer and X4 to you.

I will send you my contact information via private message. It's not going to be a big deal, but the PCM and X4 will have to be shipped to me so I can do the extra step.

It's not a program that I sell. It's a service that I provide.... work I do on your PCM. You send me the PCM, I delete PATS and send it back. On the 99-01 Rangers, you have take the additional step of grounding the starter relay as well, and I provide instructions on how to do that.

If you give me your 4 digit catch code off your PCM sticker, I can confirm if I can delete PATS on it for you. I should be able to on a 99. The 01-03's can be tricky.

Welcome to the forum

1999 Ranger, no, no way to get it started as is

Call a mobile Locksmith that can do Ford keys
He/she can come to the Ranger's location and cut 2 new keys(need at least 2 minimum) to match locks, and then add them to your Rangers PATS system with a laptop

Or have it towed to a Ford dealer

Ron is right, it takes Ford IDS software to reprogram new keys to the vehicle. Locksmiths, dealerships, and sometimes a repair shop that works on a lot of Fords will have IDS. On some vehicles, you can also use ForScan. It usually takes a minimum of 2 PATS keys present (all keys you have should be present for this job though).

The only other way to get a vehicle with a PATS problem to start is by having me delete PATS. Which by the way, is far more cost effective than buying and/or programming keys. You will obviously still need some sort of keys and lock cylinder installed so you have some sort of theft protection. But by deleting PATS, those keys will not require programming. Otherwise, they do require reprogramming, and you cannot fake that, bypass it, etc. PATS is full proof. It can only be deleted to get around it. If it's not deleted, the only way to get the truck running is by programming the keys with IDS, or maybe ForScan.

Hey guys, I just wanted to give you all an update on deleting PATS on Rangers.

While there may be a few Rangers/Explorers that just cannot be PATS deleted, the vast majority of these trucks can have PATS shut off. Some of the 06-09 era Rangers were a bit elusive for a while, but we've pretty much figured out how to delete PATS on nearly all Rangers at this point. So if you need this done, feel free to email me at pontisteve@earthlink.net.
