Power loss in 3rd gear

Power loss in 3rd gear
I just bought a 1989 ford ranger and i has a mis the guy said that i bought it off of. But it idles fine and first and second gear are fine but when i get into 3rd and 4th is just loses power, espically on hills. Any help is awsome.
