Rear Diff Gaskets

1993 Ford Ranger XLT, 2.3L, 5-Speed

What is the difference in rear diff gaskets? Some are $5 and others are $20. Getting ready to change the gear oil and want to get one where I don't have to replace the gasket right away.

Ford didn't use a gasket on most of its differentials, just Black RTV

There is no pressure inside a differential, just gravity would cause a leak, so $5 gasket should be fine, use RTV on both sides of it

I would imagine the $20 is a rubber type which are designed to be reused several times before replacing, like the rubber valve cover gaskets, you use these if you are going to be working on that area repeatedly
