Steering wheel air bag removal

I need to remove the airbag from the steering wheel on my 98 ranger so that I can replace one of the cruise control switches on the steering wheel. I know how to disable the system so that it doesn't go off in my face. Is the air bag model a snap-in unit that just requires pulling it off the wheel, or are fasteners involved? I haven't really looked it over yet. Thought I could get the skinny here from those who have removed one.

Thanks
Peter

It shouldn't go off, but be sure to disconnect the battery and try to start it a few times to drain various electric components. There are removable plastic plugs on the back of the steering wheel. Take those out and loosen the bolts behind them. I believe that lets the air bag go free. You can then disconnect it and remove your switches.

Turning the headlight switch on drains the rest of the juice as well.
