Icon5 things that make ya go hmmmmm

hey all, its been awhile since I've posted
96 ranger 4x4
4.0 engine
5r55e transmition
factory electric windows and locks
need to know the ground locations under hood for the ecu, a majority of the time when i roll down/up the drivers window, my 4high and 4 low dash lights come on for a few seconds.
I've been looking at haynes diagrams and cant figure out the connection between the two systems. I'm thinking one of them are loosing ground causing both lights to shine for a few seconds.
thanks in advance
kobin

In a 1996 it would be GEM module, behind the radio, it is the 4x4 controller and can be part of power window circuit if you have "one touch down" on drivers window

GEM has 2 grounds but on the cab side on firewall

There is a ground strap on the back of drivers side head/engine it runs to firewall often wiper motor bolt but can be a bolt of its own with several grounds, this is the Main Ground for all cab electrics and the computer
This ground strap is often forgotten when engine work is done, it needs to be connected

Thanks Ron, i will check them out. engine replaced a few years ago and this just started along with the cruse not working now and misc engine codes that lead me to believe a bad ground
and Haynes doesn't show the gem diagrams so thank you bunches on that!

Just as a heads up, most Dash indicator/trouble lights are activated by grounding the bulb
The bulbs all get 12volts with key on from cluster fuses, then the device/module will ground the bulb to turn it on
This reduces the number of 12v wires running around the dash/vehicle, so safer, i.e. a wire shorted to ground causes a bulb to light up, not a fuse to blow or melted wire

that is a true statement Ron. i wasn't thinking short to ground but that is possible as old as it is, so i will check that to.
I'm starting to think the gem is bad after driving it for work again
