air bag light

Driving along the interstate at the posted speed limit and hit a bump in the road. Then the air bag light started flashing them totally stayed on. The next day it was off. Drove over RR tracks and the light came on just as before. Now a few days later it is still on.

What should I do to find the cause?

It's a 2003 xlt 3.0L auto with 34k miles. I just got it two weeks ago.

Any help would be great I'm trying to stay away from the ford dealer.
oh it has no warranty

thanks

There should be at least a 30 day warranty from a dealer , if you bought it from one.
I'd first get a carfax and see what the truck's been through.
An 03 with that low miles would make me a bit skidish.

count the flashes. should be a 2 digit code. flashes 4 times, pause, then 7 times, etc.

i'm willing to bet that it's one of the pretensioners under the seats. it's a common problem with the connectors coming loose. if it happens after hitting a bump, i'll put my money on it.

Yep, as per the above post.

Get under your seat and you will find a grey connector plugging in underneath there.. pull it apart, then push it back together real hard - should fix the problem!

Thanks for the starting point. This is the first modern truck I've had for myself with all the bells and whistles on it. I picked it up from a federal government surplus auction. No car fax history, no warranty, and the reason for the low mileage. They are even never titled until I take the documents to my state DMV.

Thanks
