Update, stolen ranger. Power steering pump abnormally loud, shakes when turning.
Posted last week. 4.0 , motor is out of a 98 swapped into a 2000. Anyways truck got stolen, had to have new keys made with the chip, reprogram the keys to pats system and blah blah blah. Starts now, but the thief really took a toll on my clutch but I can address that issue. So when I got the truck back I noticed power steering leaking. And looks like it literally sprayed from somewhere not sure where couldn't pin point it but noticed it when I finally got it on a trailer back home. Saw fluid leaking and when I popped the hood the fluid was all over the top of the hood and on drivers side of bay. Now when parked or going at a slow speed I turn my wheel the power steering pump is way noisier then before and it my steering wheel shakes like Michael j fox. When driving at about 10 mph or more not so much a problem other than the noisy pwr steering pump. Anyways figured I would ask before I go to start pulling the darn power steering pump off wondering if anyone had any ideas. Power steering fluid is good and full and was when I got it back so I'm some what confused. And the leak doesn't seem to be consistent.
Probably the pump is fine. This happens if the steering is turned without the engine running. The shakiness is from air trapped in the pump. Turn the wheel hard left, then hard right a couple
of times to purge trapped air. You will need to add fluid, and not power steering fluid. I think it takes ATF fluid.
