well the hill wold be a factor wherever i put the sensor! it relearns the park angle every time, just not supposed to be greater than 45 degrees.... so should be good.

how would i go about testing the door thing?

i just want to state how cool i think the autostart is. just got to remember not to touch the brake until the key is in...

haha yeah the autostart is totally cool thing for sure, but to test the door trigger, just sit in the truck, lock it up, turn on the dome lights and if it goes off, theres your answer.

Or pull the dome light fuse, arm it and open the door, if it doesn't alarm then it wasn't connected to your door lock circuit, I really think they probably tapped into the dome light trigger since its easier, and it eliminates the need to diode isolate at the door trigger.

If you aren't happy with it, by all means take it back, tell them how you found out the answer with out messing with there wiring, speak to the manager and have them correct it, since you didn't buy it from them they most likely wont honer any warranty on the product itself, but they should pony up and get you square on the installation not being correct.

well he did say there was a lifetime warranty on the install as well as the product itself so i could bring it back for any work. which i didn't expect, but hey i'll take it. and yeah i was going to go back because of a few things like this. i know i can solve the issues myself but it'll be nice just having somebody else fix it under warranty.

i also realized he stole my little wiring guide.... haha oh well i have the install guide anyway.

I will say though, i had an overall good experience. didn't take overly long, the guy knew what he was doing and even let me come behind the line to see the install, which they aren't really supposed to do. he warned me my siren wouldn't be as loud as it could there in the door, and he took time to give a couple ideas where to put the second alarm. so I give my Best Buy and A.

I'll admit, i usually kept the install guides for my own personal future needs lol, but most of them can be downloaded in pdf from the manufacture now and a lot of them are uploaded on the12volt.com, free to registered members.

Did you ever figure out the thing with the door triggers?

well this is interesting. i got in the truck, armed the system, and flipped on the dome light. nothing. i opened the door. nothing. seems like one of the two would trigger the alarm. i jangled my keys pretty well and it triggered the alarm.

parking lights are also still not working, i had this issue myself, perhaps they have the same one. i'm going back hopefully this saturday, but any ideas first will help too.

That's weird, i really don't know what else would have been used to trigger the alarm, you might be setting off the shock sensor if your shaking the column hard enough, but that would be a problem if the alarm doesn't sound when the door opens lol.

well hopefully this weekend i will
a. get to best buy saturday morning to sort out what i can.
b. take it home and dissect it. it's a pain figuring out what's going on with removing the lower dash panels.

side note: new custom box/sub/amp going in THURSDAY if all goes well! single 12 pushing 1200 watts. so i could use a working alarm. despite what some of you folks might say...

And.... today I finally got back to Best Buy, they tell me the parking light wire has a bad output from the brain. which kind of makes sense since I could never get it to work and they couldn't either. now I have to con DEI into replacing it for me...

ok i've had this idea, i can get this (Amazon.com: Directed Electronics 8619 Light Flasher Assembly: Electronics: Reviews, Prices & more) which is a light flasher, though it says it is for when the siren sounds, which is half what i want, but i still want the light flash when i lock it.
if i also wire the trigger with the door lock trigger, will that current be long enough to sustain the lights for a flash as well?
it's a relay so the flash wouldn't actually be powered by the viper unit itself, to trigger the lights for a second. i think it may be easier than dealing with a replacement brain.

You could use your own relay/flasher I always grab handfuls at the junkyard for whatever, but I see what your saying, it might work, but its all depending on how quick the relay/flasher are willing to work with each other, you may need something longer then the lock/unlock pulse and you might also need to wire something to have a load on both outputs on the flasher for it to work, so it would go like front lights then rear lights alternating.

If you want to give it a try with a spare relay/flasher first I would just try it on something outside of the car on a workbench if you have some way to test it, if you had to you might be able to use a small capacitor to extend the duration of the pulse.
