How much psi is it rated for?

If its got a hydro stamp on it, that should have the psi rating as well as the last date checked.

If that tank is known to have issues blowing up, I would drill holes in it and sell it for scrap. Unless you're going to be using it for >300psi, and it was rated for 3000. Then you would probably be ok. But man, you would not want that pig to blow up in your box! There's a lot of shrapnel in something like that.

Dont use it man. I've seen too many older tanks explode at just 90 psi... A new air tank from FleetPride is pretty cheap anyways.

Turn it into a bbq grill that slides into your hitch.

why does everyone think its going to blow up? im not going to run 300 psi in it, it looks like crap in the pics but as far as the tank goes theres no rust on the outside what you are seeing is red paint over black paint covered in dust im going to pull everything off and have my cousin run his camra inside of it to see how bad it is internaly

he has one of these BK5500, Scope, Video Inspection

if you're comfortable with it, go for it.

the tank doesn't look too bad to me, just dirty.

I took it from the OP it was the Trailer that was unsafe , not the tank.
However , a BBQ grill off the hitch with the end of the tank facing the bumper would be my choice , whether the tank is in prime condition or not.

Yeah I just reread the OP. I thought you meant you had to chop up the tank because it was deemed unsafe. I didn't realize you meant the trailer itself sorry.

Fill er up! If its a steel tank and not beat up (knicks in the actual metal are bad) then I can't see how its worse than any air pig. Or propane tank for that matter. I thought you were going to fill a tank that was bad with air.

correct the trailer had a folding derik on it the derik got stuck a guy climbed it and disconected a hydro hose and it folded up and cut him inhalf the trailer i got the tank off of was not the same one but was its twin i think the tank is too small to make a good grill besides ill take gas over charcoal any day

i'm with you, at 100- 125 psi it would give a good pppppfffffffff! I have no knowledge to back it up, but it doesn't seem real scary to me for some reason.

I would say go find a 30Lb propane tank and convert it.
I did and it's great having like a 10 gallon tank on hand. Its fully portable too with the handle.

+1 for the grill idea.
