Windshield pump

i own a 2008 Ford Ranger Xl 2.3 liter, i recently bought it and the windshield pump doesn’t work the reservoir is still full of new windshield clean from the previous owner I checked the fuse and replaced them but it still ain’t working.
The mechanic wants to charge 320 to fix it, any ideas?

Hey Kharon. Welcome to the forums!

If you've checked the fuses and checked the relay, then check the harness with a tester/voltmeter to see if you're getting power to the pump.

No juice: wiring issue. Juice: pump.

Mechanic Shmechanic

The pump is a 10-20 buck part, but removing the reservoir is the worst part, and that's not a big deal. His charge is all labor.

Just take your time and you'll be fine DIY.

My pump went out back in 2012 (I feel old, now), and that little troubleshooting got me my answer.

Hope this helps.

I have 2 Rangers and the same thing has happened to both. The solution was changing out the relay, for both of them.

Yeah. Four bolts and a new pump...pull yours out (gently) and push the new one in.

I don't think it would be much different than my 2003 process, but here are pages from my manual.

The OEM Motorcraft pump costs like 25 on Amazon, but you can get cheaper brands from local parts shop.

My heater box is directly aft of these reservoirs. It's tight but accessible.

There will be a little rubber "screen grommet" that acts as a filter to keep big stuffs out of the pump AND as a sleeve to fit it in tight and seal against leaks. Use it!

Hope this helps!
