Windshield Wipers not working !
In 1995 to 2003 Rangers the GEM is what operates the wipers, or any other cab electrics
The multi-function switch is connected to the GEM, and its often the issue
There are 3 wiper relays in the engine fuse box, 2 for the wiper motor and 1 for the washer
If washer sprays the fuse is OK
The main relay is the Run/Park Relay
The High/low Relay is powered by Run/Park relay
GEM grounds the Run/Park relay to activate it
GEM grounds high/low relay but just to change speeds

Hey Ron, thanks for the comeback !
How would I test out which part is causing the problem ?
I recently replaced the Washer/Overflow Tank, and had problems with the Washer Motor, ended up reusing the OEM Unit. It was working when I finished, but I noticed when checking the wiring, that the tank was empty; something is leaking.
(Need to buy OEM next time... if that is still available)

Fuse #16, 30amp in cab fuse box is for wipers, I would test that it has 12v with Key ON, long shot but maybe ignition switch is not powering up this fuse
Probably need a helper or good ears
Key on.......Radio OFF, lol, hood open and engine fuse box open
See if you can hear wiper relay '"click" when you turn wipers on
If so then wiper motor may be the problem
If not then switch or GEM is the problem, but I would swap wiper relay with a similar one from the fuse box just to make sure relay is not the problem
Switch is the part that gets worn, so more likely the switch than the GEM
Do you hear the washer motor when activated?

Thx, I will have to check out the clicking later.
I don't hear the Washer Motor anymore, did after the Tank was replaced.
The Wipers make no movement at all, funning how this happens.

OK I fixed the Wipers a long time back but held off posting BECAUSE I felt like an idiot... !
I started to check ou tteh Wipers not working, Pulled the wire from the Washer Tank, thinking a a different wiring setup, not, listened for the Relays, nothing.
This has to be power related, right ! Well it was and I am at a loss as to the reason, except the last time I checked the fuses and found them ok, I must not have reinstalled the fuel in the correct way.
Why you ask, well somehow the fuse came loose and fell out ! I am not even sure how that happened, maybe even before I put the cover back on.
So I installed a new fuse and low and behold the wipers work.
First thanks to RonD for any and all help given to me, always good to have backup !
Now that the Wipers are working and the Washer Pump sounds like it is pumping, the Washer Tank is still leaking.
What started this problem was I has a pack rat chew the top of the Washer Tank opening and I couldn't use a cover anymore, I thought replace it from Rock Auto, shouldn't be a big problem.
Nothing but little problems and no thinks to Rock Auto, the cheap junk they sell, I'm looking around for a new Washer.Overflow Res Tank to replace the almost new Rock Auto Tank that causes all of this BS to begin with.
I have wipers so I am a head of the game but still need the same work that started this whole thing.
Again Tanks (LoL) RonD, the wizard !

Which fuse
2001 Ranger 4.0 4x4.
Book says the two relays in the box under hood. Replaced them wipers still not working. Is there another fuse? I read that the cab box has one as well? I really don’t think that the motor is shot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Also please excuse my dumbness but what is the GEM?

Fuse #26
I replaced the multi function switch, blower motor, fuse and relays etc. I looked at the manual and made sure all the fuses were ok that pertained to the wipers, the wiper relays, etc. I took out the GEM. Looked at the motherboard, didn’t see any burns etc. but after researching a ton I learned that fuse #26 in the box next to driver window, is the main fuse for the GEM. The Gem controls all things electronic in these years. I pulled it out and it was burnt. Replaced it and now my wipers work great. Frustrating but if you don’t know the GEM controls your wipers, and your GEM has a fuse, you can waste a lot time like me. Hope this helps
