ok so ive tried to adapt this to the 07 wiring and well ive failed a couple times. Has anybody done this on a 07+ truck? I got the autodim working i just need help with the autolamp.

 

eh im supposed to be doing mine this weekend and, even though mine is a 06 i think im on the 07+ wireing too. I may need help also!!

 

Josh you have the same wiring as the 04s

 

um no i dont...lol i have to hook the VSS wire to the violet/orange #1 pin off pcm and i have a SJB and not a GEM unit. I didnt have the gray/black wire on SJB. and i think my dimmer wire is different too because its not dimming with the switch.

 

Weird, what was your build date? Mine didn't dim either when I had it hooked up, I think that might be a error in the write-up

well my mirror dims and all its awesome. I just cant figure out the right wires for the relays for the autolamp. I guess ill just wait till somebody figures it out lol

 

his mirror dims just fine...

...it's the console lighting, connected to the dimmer ( supposedly ) that doesn't work right...

Lets me ask how did you find out is your auto dim working. is their some sort of test. i have installed today the mirror; ohc; and mustang domelight and the temperature sensor which i have not hook those last to wires up yet

now all lights where working and drivers mirror only. i know the otrher needs a ground. but strangely my parking lights would stay on and my 3rd brakelight will stay on; im have electrical grimline.

I will atempt again . this time im dropping down the entire headliner; it will make things much easier.

 

finaly made a ground wire for my expo mirrors today. now i can see myself at night YAYYY

 

the lights for the expo visor mirrors need a graound to work. the expo visors screw directly into the roof and the ranger uses little plastic grommet things for the screws. so you need to make a ground strap. might take a pic of it later this week for you guys. its nothing special

 

can someone tell me or post what this would be for an '88 or what each color goes to so I can match to my diagram?

 

 

Besides having the lights come on when turning the key backwards I found another slight problem with this setup. With the wiring setup in the OP, if you leave your lights on for a longer duration (to say light the way up to your house for when you walk to it), I noticed that when you open your doors you get the dinger just like you would if you had your main light switch turned on. This is because of the power going to the WH/BK or BN wires which not only lead to your park lamps but your GEM to signal the dinger.

But I have good news (lol) at least for those of us who have keyless entry. There is a way to wire up the autolamps with just one relay and eliminate the dinger when you open your doors. What you need to do is just wire up the White/Pink wire to your RAPS or Remote Keyless Entry module. If you wire the White/Pink wire to the White/Violet (looks like pink) that is on pin 8 of you Keyless entry module, the system uses your factory Park Lamps relay (the one that activates when you lock your car). This bypasses the GEM so you don't hear the dinger. But still allows the dinger to go off if you do have your main light switch turned on.

I think that might work for any 95~2000 Ranger with factory Anti-Theft as it more or less mimics the wiring in the Gen2 Explorers that came with factory Autolamps. Since I don't own a truck from those years, I couldn't say for sure.

It will not work on a 2001~2003 Ranger because no Park Lamp Relay is used. Those would still need both relays added.

 

I followed this how to and my mirror only comes on when I open the door or turn the dome light on. What can be causing this?

I know this is a really old thread. I have done a ton of searching and this is the only thread I could find that discusses hooking up to the RAPS White/Violet. If I understand you correctly, sheltonfilms, splicing into this wire allows the auto lamps to work without activating the ding.
My question is: Do I have this on my truck, and if so where can I find it?
I have a 2000 xlt 4x4 supercab with manual windows and locks.

The write-up explains that the white/purple relay control wire should connect to terminal 85 of both relays, however the pictures show that the white/purple wire connects to terminal 86 of both relays. Does it matter or is one of them an error?

Also, is the black wire indicated in the 2004-2006 diagram a ground wire?

I will attempt this on my 2007 Level II after I find a detailed wiring diagram of the wires behind the light switch.

Otherwise has anyone with a 2007+ Ranger found success with this?

It really doesn't seem too complicated. Its just trying to find the right wires behind the dash.

 

Holy thread resurrection Batman,

So the 2010 Ranger with factory foglights has a dual switch (headlamps and fogs all integrated into one). In terms of the wire colors, I have (with labels from the wiring schematics):

- Purple/White - Relay - Park Lamp
- Grey/Purple - Switch - Fog Lamps Front
- Brown/White - Control Mod (Turn Lamp Right)
- Black/Yellow (two wires) - Grounds
- White/Red (two wires) - Headlamps
- Light Blue/White - Dimmer

From what I can gather, the four wires from the switch I need to splice with John Griggs's write up are:

- Lead wire going to Head Lamps
- Power wire for Head Lamps
- Lead wire for Parking Lamps
- Power wire for Parking Lamps

From what I can see on the 2010 wiring schematic (disclaimer: I am not an engineer nor exactly know what I am looking at times!) the Purple/White is is the lead for parking lamps, and the one White/Red the power wire for the headlamps. Can anyone provide guidance on wiring the mirror in or which wire is which? The schematics are just not as helpful as I hoped.

 

I wanted to add to this thread. I did this to my 2010 Ranger today. It should work for 2007-2011 Rangers. I got the wiring from another site and modified a diagram from above.

 

thanks for posting this. i have one question though, the relays i have are numbered differently 86 and 85 are on opposite sides/flipped. am i still wiring to the numbers or to the corresponding sides? i have 2 40 amp relays and i guess im not sure if they are set up the same as 30 amp. pretty sure they should be the same.

 

Wire to the numbers. The only difference between the two relays is how much current can go through it. The numbering scheme should be the same. Take a look on the side of the relay though. There hopefully is a diagram there. 86 and 30 are your inputs with 85 and 87 (and 87a if you have a 5 pin) as your outputs.

well i can confirm the wiring diagram and wire colors are correct. just finished hooking it all up. it is an overcast day here in AZ and the lights turn on when ignition is turned over to acc as well as when engine is engaged. fog lights don't turn on unless manually turned on. if anyone knows of how to add another relay to get those to go, it would be greatly appreciated. only thing I'm wondering now is if the sensor actually works... it is not that dark out and as long as the auto light is turned on the lights turn on. i guess ill have to wait for a sunny day which in AZ is 330 days a year... lol. thanks for the diagram guys.
