HA HA. Mine doesn't look like that. That's an older style Mazda steering wheel.

Wait! Before you change it, have a photo shoot contest for the best Frankenstein parts on your truck. I think you'd win hands down :)

New leather wrapped wheels are about 120 ish from ford(online parts place).

If you want cruise i suggest getting a kit off ebay. Even if its the wrong one, you would just need the correct throttle cable. I think the 4 cyl and 4.0 share a cable and the 3.0 is the odd ball. They can be found for around 25 ish(again onlione ford parts place).

Kinda on the old topic. Some people will take totalled vehicles to states like GA to get a clean title issued and resale it in another state as clean. This would be title fraud depedning on your states laws.

If you look at the kit theres seems to be a bit more than just servo, clock spring, switches, and different plastic backing for the steering wheel.

Im not sure if you need to splice anything or not. If someone installed a kit please let us know what was needed.

I would go to a junkyard and just get a Ford Airbag. the two screws underneath those pop off covers are the only screws that hold in the airbag, and the wiring harness should be the same. just try to get the right color. :)

I installed one of those cruise kits in my 03 Mazda. It is a bit more than a servo, cable, switches and plastic piece for the steering wheel. They include some wiring harnesses, it requires taping into the clutch switch if equipped and there is a switch to install on the brake pedal. I also found that if you use their wiring harness to wire the servo you wont get the cruise light on the dash when engaged. Both my Mazdas have had the wiring to the servo already in the engine compartment and hooking this to the servo everything works ok and the cruise light comes on when cruise is engaged.

Something to watch out for: Ford changed from 1st Generation to 2nd Generation airbags at some point. Although they look the same, the two systems use different airbags, different modules and different wire connectors. I don't know exactly when the Ranger change took place but on many Ford models, it was around 1999.

To be on the safe side, if I were looking for a bag for a 2001 Ranger, I would source it from a 2001~2003 donor. That way, you should have a 2nd Gen airbag that would fit your steering wheel.

My 98 has second gen airbags. just look for the second gen airbag sticker on the driverside window. should be the same one.

Could very well be that Rangers changed sometime in 98MY.

I have a 98 Explorer clockspring that is 1st Generation and a 99 Explorer bag that is 2nd Gen. The connector hard shells on both ends of the 1st Gen 98 clockspring assembly had to be changed to match my 2nd Gen bag and my 2nd Gen 2003 truck harness.

If he can get a 2nd Gen Ranger airbag from 2003 or before, my guess is that it would work with the 2001 RCM and fit his 2001 Ranger wheel. To be absolutely sure, he would need to buy a new or used airbag that crosses to a 2001 part number.

That is a really nice steering wheel, but I have no clue whether it would work or not. I think you would have to change out the whole column.

Eh that steering wheel is kinda ghey, like most of the rest of the styling on 04+'s.

Just get the air bag module and call it a day. Personally, I like the Mazda one.

ahh okay, the original post only says about wanting a ford emblem. In that case, I'd just find an 01-03 junkyard wheel.
