Radio mount question...

Ok so right now I have a sort of...unclean setup in my truck and it's beginning to bother me. I was thinking of getting another CB that would fit better or replacing it with something else.

My question is, is this considered a double DIN? Anyone have any pictures of two devices in the DIN like a radio and something else of the same size?

People have put a single din radio in with a CB below it and it fits well. Search around, there are pics on here.

That's how I have mine set up now...but I'm thinking of upgrading to another CB..but I don't think a standard size CB will fit. The holes next to the CB come in handy for hiding the extra wire from the GPS and radar detector though lol

Here's a picture of what I'd like to do. I'm assuming that this would require the removal of the upper and lower lips on the bezel and it looks like they're using a DVD player install bracket. Anyone know who's truck this is? I've done some searches but haven't found it yet.

I like them both, the lower one with the Uniden 538 looks better but the top one works with the Pro 520XL except for the Bright Blue (just me) both good simple units.

Don’t hold me to it but there is a Double Din Mounting Bracket on eBay, try here: Metra 99-5812 ford lincoln mercury Double Din kit - eBay (item 140368686432 end time Feb-17-10 1109 PST).

I have been told that this is needed.
Get it try to mount the two units and then fit it to the Ranger Dash.
The bottom pic looks like it has a bracket around both unit, might be the same one.

luck,

I just stop in to look at the post and I want to relocate my CB from my transmission tunnel to the dash but when I tried to do this my Pioneer premier stereo wouldn't fit below the Cobra 19DXIII. Should I try to do it the other way around? Is there a cretin stereo instlation kit that I need or can I use the ones you get from WalMart or best buy? Any Ideas and help would be good. Also what length coax cable would I need to get to run from the bed to the dash and I need a duel cable seeing as I run two antennas.

Uniden 520 = 1.5” (Blue Bezel)
Uniden 538 = 2” (2nd pic of OEM Bezel)
Cobra 19 = 1.75” )your radio)

When you use the insert piece like pic w/520 in it, you are talking a radio that is ¼” shorter than the Cobra.
If you compare the Uniden 538 and the Cobra you are talking ¼” more height and it would fit BUT the pic with the Uniden 538 (second bezel) is using a separate double din bracket and it requires cutting of the OEM Bezel to fit before you even start attempting to fit the Cobra.
So in order to fit your Cobra 19 you will need to cut some of the OEM Bezel and all bets are off on the fitment of the actual CB.

Just IMHO…

Measure the Insert above your radio, compare with your CB to that measurement.
IMHO, If you have to cut into the OEM Bezel you are getting a little hokey… the Uniden 520 fits and with a small piece of plastic or other material looks good. You might even mount a connector or two on either side of the Uniden.
If the insert is smaller than your CB it might not be a good idea.
if the insert is larger than your CB then you are in business.

Think about a Uniden Pro520XL CB to replace your Cobra.Your pi of the Antenna Mount, how is your CB working, how is the SWR ?
Grounding is important and believe it or not the truck bed is not a good grounding point.

I have my CB wired into the cigiret lighter expansion bar that you can get from walmart. I can reach 15-20 miles front to rear range with my antennas on my bed rail with 2 4Ft. whips. I'm just wanting to get the CB off the floor and where I can see it a little better.

How did you set the whips up ?

How did you set the SWR ?

What is the SWR for the setup ?

Just wondering ?

I never tuned it just put them on and left it alone. It probably could be better but I don't know how to tune it so...

The blue bezel is my current setup. I needed to do a little trimming to get it to fit but I'm probably going to leave it alone. The radio is about 12 years old and still gets a really good SWR.

I found the forum where the second picture came from with the 538 and he needed to do major trimming to get it to fit and needed to remove the antenna connection from the back of the radio and place it on a pig tail. So the depth of the radio is important as well. The local CB shop sold me a 90 degree antenna adapter that attaches to the back of the radio to allow for some additional clearance.
