Post 1993 Ranger Splash, step side, short bed, 4 cyl. Auto

Hello. my name is Ron and I live in Beavercreek Ohio. I just sold my huge 1993 Ford F150 with a 159" wheel base and bought a much smaller 1993 Ranger Splash with 109, I think, wheel base just so I can have a little more room to work in my less than adequate 2-car garage. This truck has seen better days and I will need lots of help. I will be asking lots of questions. I am a penny-pincher by nature and do not use a $5 dollar tool when a $1 dollar tool will work. Go Ford Ranger...I hope..

Welcome to the forum Ron

1993 was first year of 2nd generation Rangers, most parts are interchangeable up to 2012 models, "most"

You have a 2.3l SOHC Lima engine, also called Pinto engine since it was first used in 1976 Ford Pinto.
Lima engine was used until mid 2001 in Rangers, then was replace by the Mazda 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine
In 1998 the 2.3l Lima was stroked to a 2.5l but same engine except for crank and rods.

2.3l Lima did use a timing belt which needed to be changed every 80k miles, it is a non-interference engine so broken timing belt won't hurt valves or pistons.

Not a real power house but very very reliable
There was a design change in 1995 when Ford changed to the OBD2 computers(EEC-V), so you can NOT use a 1995 to 2001 Lima engine in your 1993
So just a heads up on that, while it isn't impossible the problems are more trouble to solve than just rebuilding the 1993 engine, lol.

You will have an A4LD automatic, good transmission unless rebuilt by inexperienced technician, then it just has one problem after another.
Good read here about it: Ford Ranger A4LD Automatic Transmission

Thanks for the quick reply. I owned a 1993 F150 extended cab long bed with 6cyl engine that I bought new in 1992. But, with it's 159" wheel base, it was just too long for my garage and still give me a little room to work. I hope to get as much pleasure out of this ranger. Can you give me any info on how to run the front brake lines, all the way from the master cylinder to the wheels? Thanks again.. Ron
