2009 for My daughter

Hi all,
new to Rangers but not trucks. Also have aTundra Crew Max and a 2500HD with the 8.1L.
Just found a 2009 with 67K miles (carfax confirmed).
She wanted a small regular cab truck, and these days "small" isn't really small. So after 3 months of looking, this on epopped up on carfax.
Needs a few things addressed.
Mainly just baselining maintenance and upgrading the sound system.
But the Tie rod ends were both misisng the upper bushings.

It's up on stands and will be for the next week or so.

I'll try and post specific questions in the correct areas.

Welcome to the forum

2009 Ranger
2.3l DOHC Duratec engine or 4.0l SOHC engine?
Manual or automatic?

Manual would be an M5OD-R1(M5R1), these use ATF same as automatics, not gear oil
Auto would be a 5R44E(4cyl) or 5R55E(V6)

1999 and up Rangers had PATS(passive anti-theft system) that requires transponder key to start engine
If you have 2 working keys then you can add a 3rd key yourself
If you only have 1 working key then you can have that 1 key CLONED(any locksmith) to have a spare key, but it doesn't work as a 2nd key to add a 3rd key
There is no "work around" for PATS, truck needs to be towed if you don't have a working key, either to Ford Dealer $$$$, or to a Locksmith that has Ford software to Add keys to PATS memory
So best to have a spare key around, lol

automatic.
I'm changing the fluid today and just had a huge surprise.

There was no pan gasket. No indication of some one using rtv or anything just bare metal on metal can't belive it wasn't leaking. Filter had OEM markings.
Did the pan like the shop manual says and every drop went in the catch pan.

As far as the keys, I got one and it is a clone, So I don't know if they can clone a clone or if I'll need to go to Ford. It has an open Airbag recall so at some point it's going there anyway. We have a guy in our town that runs a locksmith and clones keys just need to call him.

After the transmission, it's on to the differential. Funny thing, I stopped by NAPA to pick up the oil and some G05 coolant, and couldn't find the Valvoline gear oil. The counter guy showed me where the NAPA brand was also valvoline. But I asked for the Valvoline since it was on sell for $4 less per bottle. He went to the back and brought out a case.
