I’m looking to get some info on swap my ranger with a 5.0. I have the motor, the correct fly wheel, and a 4.2 manual transmission for a 2wd. I’m looking to figure out what clutch I need and what starter I need. I’ve heard the original starter for the motor will not work because it’s from a automatic. And I also know I have to find a transfer case for the transmission. Any help?

You can't use the M5R2(M5OD-R2) transmission from a 2WD vehicle with a transfer case
Transmission's, manual or automatic, come in two versions, 2WD and 4WD, they are not interchangeable, so no conversion is possible
Sell the 2WD trans and get a 4WD version from a 4.2l V6(these match 5.0l OHV bolt pattern and have shifter in correct place for Ranger use)
Try to get 4WD M5R2 trans WITH transfer case

With clutches you match the transmission, so you need clutch for an M5R2 model transmission

You would need a 5.0l starter for manual transmission matching year of engine and flywheel
