94 Ford ranger

Hey guys just bought an old fort ranger, the truck never starts on the first crank and stalls in reverse. Also the cel comes on and shuts off when I’m going 35 and up. Changed the pcv valve. Thinking about changing all vacuum tubes to see if it helps. Also has a cracked filler neck so I don’t know if that’s problem. Can post videos and pictures to show if needed! Thanks for the help

Welcome to the forum

You should read the codes first
On a 1994 there will be a OBD1 connector in the engine bay near the fuse box
You need a jumper wire or even a paper clip to activate test mode

Google: reading ford check engine light (86-94)

Watch the video

1994 will use 3-digit codes, have pen and paper to write them down when CEL starts to flash them
3-digit code list here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...3-digit-codes/

Codes can be misleading as they are written for mechanics not DYIers
So you can post the codes here and we may be able to save you some time and money(on un-needed parts)

As for the slow startup try cycling the key on and off 3 times and then try to start the engine
For safety reasons the fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds with key on, if fuel pressure has dropped to 0psi when engine is shut off(should stay at 20psi) then one key on may not be enough to restore fuel pressure, 3 will
