First ranger ever
First ranger ever
Hello, I just bought my first ever first ranger. It's a 2000 reg cab, short bed, manual, 3.0 v6.4x4. I only paid $100 for it, but the rear frame is junk, the bed is in pretty bad shape as well. So I need to repair/replace the frame and figure something out for the bed (custom homemade or a junk yard). So I'll be her looking and asking alot of questions. Just wanted to say howdy to everyone. Thanks for having me.
Welcome to the forum
You have a 3.0l OHV Vulcan engine, very reliable, but it is a high RPM engine, so NEEDS to be above 3,000rpms to have any power, just its design
If manual trans its an M5OD-R1 5-speed
If auto then its a 4R44E 4-speed
Transfer case is a BW1354 for either
1998-2000 Ranger 4x4s used PVH(pulse vacuum) front hubs to lock front wheels to transfer case for 4WD, these should be changed to Manual Hubs if they haven't been yet
Rangers were all built using separate front frame and rear frame, the connection/joint is just behind the cab
There were 4 different front frames, regular cab 2WD, extended cab 2WD, regular cab 4WD, extended cab 4WD
4x4 frames are Boxed in the front to be stronger and had mounts for front axle
But there were only 2 rear frames, 6ft bed frame and 7ft bed frame, most regular cab and ALL extended cab frames used the same 6ft bed and frame
Only regular cab "Long bed" Rangers used the 7ft rear frame and longer bed, this frame is different, the rear axle is mounted 6" farther back
You should be able to find 6ft bed and frame as these were 99% of what all Rangers came with, long beds were few and far between, lol
1983 to 2011 Ranger used the same frame dimensions, but body mounting points were change in 1993 for the wider bodies
Also spare tire and EVAP system mounting change on rear frames, so I would look for 1998 and up frames and beds

Found a 98 ranger rear frame that was made into a trailer, I hope it's in good shape, going to check it out tomorrow. He said $100 for the bed, frame, Everything. Hope it's the start of my resurrection!
