Terrys 87 Ranger Restore
Having problems loading a few pictures at a time. Ripped one of lug wire trying to remove it. I am waiting on my plug wires to come in and then I will remove Plenum to install cap, rotor, wires, temp sensor and valve cover gaskets.
Old plugs don’t look to bad.
Adding anti seize to plugs and grease to plug wires will make life easier on the next change.
Yea!!! Ford in their infinite wisdom has the Access Plate to the Wiper Shaft blocked by the Plenum. I was hoping to get the Wipers working tonight. Guess I will have to wait until I remove plenum for the valve cover gaskets Still waiting on a few parts before doing gaskets.
Not the way I like to do things but I did get a better vent from the boneyard. I fixed it with electrical tape. Better then it was. I have not been able to find this part. Anybody know name and where to get it please let me know.
My bed bolts have been soaking in white vinegar for nearly a week. A slow way of cleaning but easy.
They came out with a light coat of black on them. I ran them under the bench brush to remove any debri.
Soaked them with WD 40 and put them in a bag until I install the bed. Bed will not go on until frame is cleaned and painted, rear brakes, rear diff fluid, any other fuel tank problems are fixed.
Another job getting done. Cleaning debri out if cowl. Can cause rot leading to leaks in cab.
Water drains to side and behind fender. I will be replacing these fenders and will show drain holes later. No access to passenger side but when fender is off I can clean it then.
Yea!!! Got my wipers working. Now I can get a 30 day pass to get exhaust fixed. Still got to do valve covers. Not looking forward to that. Wipers fixed and Sensor in. That is a score. Clip did not let me down. It was a total pain in the rear to get installed and removed. Pic to show how clip seats for others. Ford could of made it easier.
My homemade gasket scraper. Works really well and can put at different angles for tight spots.
Got passenger cover off and cleaning gasket off. This is a slower task then I was expecting but still progress.
I have been cleaning parts as I go. Not going to paint as I want to get truck back on the road as soon as possible.
May not be able to tell, but I am slowly cleaning up engine bay as I go. Eventually I will detail engine bay when leaks are fixed.
A few more things to install. I hope this will fix the leak around pump assembly. Really hoping I get the parts I need to finish putting plenum on. When I run out of funds for parts I start doing a lot of cleaning and rattle can paint to keep moving forward. Still want to change/ flush all fluids, rust removal from frame, and a lot of degreasing underneath the truck. Plenty to keep me busy. Oh… all hoses and belts along with a few more sensors. Then start on brakes.
New gasket on.
New distributor installed. I was hoping my plug wires would arrive. I really wanted to get them installed with plenum off.
Rotor was toast. Should get 5 more horsepower.
No wonder truck did not want to run. Actually runs really good for condition it is in.
Spent quite a bit of time cleaning Plenum. Runners look good and clean.
$36 a note to myself. My rotor will not be on until late tonight. I don’t like using bottom quality parts. No hurry to do this again. Plug wires will be a few days so will have swap them at a later time. Replacing heater hoses. I wanted to change all hoses but they did not arrive. Lower radiator hose is on back order until October 9th.
She is back together and running really well. I’m not seeing any more oil leaks. I set the bolt in the magnetic tray for a reason but can not remember why. I do have the bolt for the dip stick laying somewhere on the truck I need to find.
A future fix I need to add to the parts list.
I think I can repair the battery cables a little better. I spent a little more then planned but it was needed. I will be starting a lot of cleaning and cheap repairs until funds become available.
I had to get some new fittings for the Sand Balster. I really like these. My hose does not leak at the air tool being used. I will get more of these and switch all my air tools over.
I am not impressed with the drill brush attachment. Better then nothing but will continue my search for a home sand blaster.
I really liked the HF hand held blaster. I think a more aggressive media would do better. This was just a test. I may need to just get the 15 gallon blast HF sells. I will look into seeing a better media or big bag of soda. I did get my hand in the way and it grabbed my attention quick.
