New mini-mod I came up with (for manual tranny only)

On the new F150, some trim levels come with a column shifter, some come with a console shifter, and on the column ones the space left behind by the gear indicator is filled in with the logo of the model, i.e. Lariat, FX4, etc. Well I was staring at the big black space where the gear indicator would be on my truck, and thought.. why not? It turns out only two tabs hold the piece in, so it was only a little bit of trial and error to get it to fit into the space provided by the opening... so without further adieu:

Its not lit up at all at night, but its a start! I might mount some red LEDs in there.

My plan once was to put a 2x16 character LCD readout in there. I'd have to enlarge the opening a little, but there looked to be space. Connected to the readout would be a small embedded 8-bit computer interfaced to the OBDII system to display interesting truck stats, like thrown codes maybe or current RPM/speed. Maybe even fuel/air readings or whatever, there's hundreds of interesting stats you can poll in OBDII. I have all the parts I needed to get started (two displays, one dev kit for an 8-bit micro-proc). I've had these parts for over a year now.. I just don't have the time, or the inclination since I now question how long I'd like to keep the truck..

Are you sure that space isn't designed to light up and there just isn't a bulb in there. Check it out cuz that would be just like Ford to do.

Thats rad. I once saw a guy had some aftermarket guage covers that covered that spot. It was solid across the bottom where the shift position should have been. I hate that empty holy.

And yes, the "Ranger" text is off-center in that fiel, it has to be to center in the opening for some reason. It took me several "trial and error" tries to get it right.

Of course now that I have the proportions right, I could easily churn out psd files with "EDGE" "FX4" or other logos, assuming someone provides me with the right typefaces.
