One Crazy v6 idea.

Everyone keeps talking about stroking the 4.0 v6. That starts 1000 little side debates, and constant mocking of the person who posted it. Then I thought, one of the stumbling points of the old 4.0 v6's is that, or at least this is what i have been told, that it doesn't like to build rpms, or rev as it where. That's great for a truck but for those who want a fast truck, that's not always a good thing. So that gots my mind a turnin.

There is an old hot rodder trick, I bet most of you are familure with. You take a 350 chevy sb (or any v8, I just know this one) and you de-stroke it down to a 305 (or what ever displacement you would like). The 350 chevy has a larger bore then the 305. SO by destrokeing it you where able to built the same power as a 305, but you could rack the rpms a lot faster.
I believe they also did this the big blocks. But I am not sure. I have heard of taking a 427 down to a 350 or a 302, but never seen one.

I wounder if you could do somthing similar with the 4.0 OHV. Take the 4.0 block, and use a 2.9 crank and rods (or something like that). That would be interesting to see.

thoughts?

i think it works for big displacement, however when your dealing with such small displacement i think it would be worse to suffer the loss of tq with whatever rpms you gain

im gonna have to agree with ES894x4... u would probably lose more torque than u would gain in horsepower. it is most definitely a cool idea tho.
i think the bottom line is, for our trucks, wanna go fast? supercharge your 4.0 or put in a V8. i always thought it would be decent to put the 5.0 mustang engine in my ranger.

If swapping out motors why not just a 3.5Duratec(Turaus-Edge-Flex). It has more HP already than the 4.0SOCH and you can probably winde it right out with no problems. I don't know much about the 3.5D motor but I know the 2.3D motor does a decent job in the Focus and it pulls 6K RPM easily.

bang for buck, a 5.0l swap is probably your best bet. It's been done countless times, and parts are plentiful. But if you can find a donor vehicle and get a killer deal then go with whatever floats your boat.

How 'bout boring and destrking the 4.0 so it's still 4.0 or maybe larger, say with a 2.9 crank and some 351W slugs, so you have the same (or more) displacement, with higher rpm capabilities, and more power? just bench racing here, but I've seen this done with a 351 bored and destroked to 358ci, and spinning 7k with no probs. road race motor though.

I was looking at the 3.5 or the 3.0 duratecs, they are amazing motors, the 3.0 in my girlfriends taurus pulls like a raped rihno. The stumbling block there is Idk what transmission they use, and how to wire it into my truck.

As for the 5.0 I also thought about that, I have been weighing my options on doing that swap, but like i said i like being hard headed and not going with the flow. Lol.
