flat bed

I was offered a flat bed for my truck for two hundred dollars. Should I go for it. I can't make up my mind. Opinions?

Can't give an opinion without knowing what it looks like. Is it a wooden one someone made, or a steel or aluminum framed one? More info would be helpful.

He told me it was diamond plated steel. I think it might be a wood bed with steel around the sides. I just want opinions on how you would think it gonna look cuz I don't wanna put it on and regret it.

He has one on his other truck (Toyota) and it looks bad ***, my cousin has one on his dodge and that looks really mean as well but will it look good on a ranger?

See if he can get you pics, then post them here. A diamond plate flatbed could look good, but it could be ugly.

The truck with the bed on it is in upstate new york til the spring so I don't think I can get pics til then since I'm in jersey, but I'm not gonna make a final deal til I see it. I just can't get a good mental picture of what my truck would look like. If I were to do this swap how much do you think I could sell the stock bed for, its in really good shape no dents rust or scratches.

The looks of a flatbed aren't everything.
If it's a true flatbed that covers the wheels , and built so that it won't rub the tires with the suspension bottomed out , Then without a loading dock of some kind it is a PITA to load anything as it sits too high.
If it's made with wheel wells , then you still have to contend with wobbly side and rear racks when you want to carry anything and you're not really gaining any cargo space.
What is the truck mainly going to be used for ?

It's mostly a daily driver but I will have it loaded here and there but it is by no means a work truck atleast at the moment

I'd make my own over buying one thats pre-built. I know someone who built one himself on his toyota and it has a storage chest built into it that sits flush with the floor of the flat bed and goes downward. you can fill it with ice and load it with beer in the summer haha

My dilemma is that I don't wanna put it on and have it look like s#*t cuz its not like I really need it and if I were to swap it the money I would get for the bed would go straight to paying of my old man for the truck itself cuz I still owe him a grand or two.

Flat Bed Pros:
- Oversize load capcity (payload remains almost the same)
- Cargo flexibility (you can add side walls, ladder racks, roll bars, tools chest on side, hangers. straps, and a lot of cargo management systems)
- Less scratches to the body (when you have a steel flat bed you don´t give a $%&# about reverse mistakes like hitting trees, poles, and others)
- Badd *** appearance (´cause it will look more like a work truck)

Flat bed cons:
- Need to attach and secure anything you haul (the original bed of your truck is just like the name reads: " pick - up "
- No more tonneau cover options
- No more taking people in the back for camping, off roading, party..... whatever
- Usually the steel flatbeds can be slightly larger than the original pickup bed, so you will need more room to park your ride
- If you don´t go for the side tool boxes on the flat bed be ready to see all the time the frame of your pickup and other components
- You will not be able to have your ride clean after rolling over a ridiculous small water puddle !

hope this can help. By the way Im planning to get a flat bed on mine in a pair of years !

^ First pic above it doesn't look bad... the truck is old enough to kind of pull it off.

A white FX4 with a flat bed is just wrong.

The last one looks unfinished, run short side rails (6" to 9") and a tailgate painted the color of the truck would finish it off. 2 1/2" round tubing with a couple of risers for support at the wheel center and turned down at the end Might even look better. Definitely needs a tool box under it behind the cab.
