Dome Light Not Working

Dome Light Not Working
Hi, I have a 1998 2.5L manual transmission Ranger and my dome light does not come on when I open either door's or if i switch on the dimmer, I changed the relay which is locate on the engine with a new one. Also, a new Battery relay saver because of water damage. I do have 12v on the panel fuse (26) but nothing on the dome light end. I traced the wires and proved them with a multimeter and all the wires are in perfect condition. Can the Gem could be the culprit? Any hint? I will appreciate any help.

Welcome to the forum

And did you change the bulb, you don't mention that, so had to ask, lol

Not not the GEM if the dimmer wheel also doesn't turn on dome light, it doesn't use the GEM, just door open does

Dome light needs 12volts AND a ground to light up, did you check that one of the clips for bulb is a good Ground?

1999 diagram below
Same as 1998

Does the interior light relay "click" when door is opened?
There is no relay in engine fuse box for this circuit, so not sure what you changed???

Its next to battery saver relay in Relay box 1 above gas pedal
Sample lay out here of that relay box: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.ran...f26c9b27c1.jpg

There is no specific layout for relay box 1

Thanks for your time...The bulbs are new. I removed the dome housing and test the wires without it and found no voltage on it. I will check the relay and then i post the results.

Well I can't find any relay box above the gas pedal. Maybe my ranger it's a little different. LOL

I belive this is the Battery saver relay, no?

Nothing over gas pedal

I think that's the battery saver relay, wire colors look right from what I can see, 3 tan/yellows, purple/orange and light green/orange
Rear ABS module the the one with lots of wires, next to it

No, I don't see a Relay Box there either

Assuming you don't have Power Group, i.e power windows, door locks, and no 4WD?
So base model

Found this post for a 1998 Mazda B-series: https://www.therangerstation.com/for...-relay.158128/

Pin 30 or pin 87 can be the "hot"(12v) pin/slot on any relay and the other one is the "load", the device you want to activate with the relay
When a relay is activated pins 30 and 87 are connected together, so doesn't matter which one is "hot", both are when relay closes/activates

Pins 85 and 86 are the coil inside the relay, one will be 12v and the other a Ground to activate the relay, doesn't matter which is which but you need both to activate the relay

Most automotive relays have 12v at the coil with Key on, or full time, the GROUND is used to activate the relay, this cuts down on 12volt wiring around the vehicle that could short out, if a ground shorts then all that happens is relay activates, no blown fuses or melted wires

Relay wiring seen here: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/images/m...iring-840x.jpg

And here: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/images/m...lay-wiring.jpg

Ford used both types
87a is the "5th" pin/slot and not used for most applications
