Need ideas/help

Hi my name is Justin. I have 1993 ford ranger with 4.0L V6. Truck wouldn't stay running without a vacuum leak and was burning to much gas i talked to several mechanics at my shop(yes im a mechanic) they all said to replace the temperature sensor. I did that. Truck ran good with no vacuum leaks for 1 day and now when i put it into drive truck jumps rmps and dies right away or when it does go into drive it slams into gear. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum

All fuel injection computers have Clear Flooded Engine mode, not a Ford thing
Fuel injected engines have a TPS(throttle position sensor)
TPS gets 5volts from computer
It sends back 1volt with throttle closed, and 4.5volts with throttle wide open

Clear flooded engine mode
Turn on key
Press gas pedal down to the floor all the way<<<TPS at 4.5v tells computer to TURN OFF fuel injectors IF RPMs are 0
You are in Clear Flooded Engine mode
Crank engine
Engine should NOT start, it should not fire at all, as there is spark but NO FUEL should be coming in

If engine starts or fires then you have a leaking fuel injector or FPR(fuel pressure regulator), if 1997 and earlier

If no start or fire then injectors and FPR have no leaks
I use this every morning to start my high mile 4.0l, I want oil to be circulated BEFORE engine starts up, so I crank with gas pedal down for a few seconds then release gas pedal for start up
As soon as you release gas pedal computer will start injectors, even while cranking
Computer will also start injectors if RPM exceed 400, so if engine fires computer will exit Clear Flooded engine

One thing, throttle cables can stretch, so even with gas pedal down to the floor engine throttle plate may not be wide open so TPS is under 4.5v so no Clear Flooded Engine
Press gas pedal down to the floor using a stick against the seat, then go to the engine and see if you can manually open throttle a bit more, if so..................Google: Ranger throttle cable Mod
Easy fix, and you need it to use Clear Flooded engine

If throttle cable is OK and engine started/fired in Clear Flooded engine mode
FPR has a vacuum hose attached, pull it off and check it for gasoline, should not be any, of course, replace FPR if gasoline is found, it is flooding your engine

If vacuum hose is clear, then unplug coil pack so no spark/no start
Repeat Clear Flooded engine, crank engine a few times
Now pull out the spark plugs and check for the WET tip spark plug, thats the cylinder with leaking fuel injector
