What all engines are a direct swap for the 2001 4.0 SOHC?

What all engines are a direct swap for the 2001 4.0 SOHC?
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 SOHC with a bad motor. I was wondering if only other 2001 Ranger 4.0s are direct swap without changing wiring or anything else.

Not really sure on this, but u may wanna consider an 05’ or newer 4.0 to replace your current one... The reason being is the faulty tensioners the early years are known for, fairly certain any differences will be minor. U will use all sensors and wiring from original motor on your replacement engine....

2005 and up 4.0l SOHC had the newer timing chain setup so even used it's a better bet
4.0l SOHC was used in these vehicles
2001–2012 Ford Ranger
2001–2010 Mazda B4000
1997–2010 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer
2005–2010 Ford Mustang
You will most likely need to swap in your oil pan and upper intake, and accessories and brackets to match Ranger setup and wiring harness
But block and heads are the same regardless of year
2005 and up 4.0l SOHC had the newer timing chain setup so even used it's a better bet

I can vouch for what RonD has said.
I recently swapped an '08 motor into my '03 Ranger.
It's totally a direct bolt-in even with the exhaust manifolds. One change I did have to do was the wiring on the intake. I simply swapped intakes. Intake gaskets at my local parts store.
Relatively painless except for the injector adapters on the heads. Because they're over 10 and 15 years old for each motor, they kinda broke...all of them, and I was very careful.
A set of 6 off eBay cost me 26 and change because these were NOT at my local parts store, and I seemed to perplex the counter guy even when I held the broken one still on the injector in front of him.

Ford part number F77Z9G512AA. Dealer cost 12 bux and change each.
Apparently, for longevity reasons, any 4.0 SOHC before 2004 (verify?) had timing chain issues (mine lasted 195000, though).
That's why I sought a later motor and found a '08 for $550 off eBay. Check your local wrecking yards before you go eBay because shipping is a PITA and the wallet.
