stalls and needs a jump after driving 6 miles and no power foot to the floor
trucks been sitting and someone needed to borrow it to pull a trailer, he got 6 miles away and the truck stalled, luckily I had a jump pack and he got back but he had to limp it back... it sounded like a bad egr valve symptom and the previous owner told me it needed one but I don't think it has one unless it's behind the motor. I'll attach a picture of a canister that has a vacuum line with a hole in it any help appreciated it's a 93 4.0 ohv CEL comes on but I don't have an OBD 1 and I started it today and CEL is off and it runs great with full power, (CEL only comes one periodically while driving so I wouldn't be able to do the jump wire trick) I read on another forum its for the air vent but it sucks air in when vents are off so I feel like its effecting the engines evap or vacuum heres a close up
Use a volt meter to test battery key OFF
12.3v to 12.8volts is expected
Start engine
Re-test battery
13.5v to 14.8v is expected, if lower then alternator is bad or blown fuses
That's a picture of vacuum reservoir, in a 1993 it is used for the EGR system, tape up the hole
But not your problem, not why it stalled
Could be clogged exhaust that clear itself on restart
Could have been running off the battery, alternator not working, so stalled and then weak spark for trip home
If its been sitting the gasoline only last 4 months in the tank, and will have lots of water in it, which will cause a stall as it comes thru the injectors
Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll definitely get a multimeter out, mechanics told me it had aftermarket cats in the past and I just removed a backwards muffler way before all this to put a normal 2 chamber on it so I doubt its plugged and old gas would make sense but I have been taking it on weekend joyrides so I've kept up replacing gas and additives. it had about 2gal in and he filled it up before going on the trip (I wish I was in the truck because he didn't explain what happened that great) but running off the battery makes the most sense with weak spark because it wasnt misfiring it just was barely running with no power I'm also noticing a whine sound like a bad bearing, sounds the same as when the alternator went on my camry but theres no battery light on the ranger and it's been able to start up the next day so I thought if its keeping it charged it should be good. and maybe if it was another unrelated engine problem the tiny no brand battery only needed a jump from the headlights left on when it stalled because it stalled in the street infront of my house and it was night I could see the whole thing, lights dimmed. battery sparks when it's plugged in and I already replaced the CPS sensor and TPS so I don't know
