granada, anyone?

'77, 2door, 250 I-6, 3 speed auto, keystone klassic rims with letter series tires (rears are G-60-14) the guy who previously owned it had a heart attack behind the wheel, coasted out into a field and died shortly after the car came to a stop. the widow gave the car to me and a friend to "do something with" the title ended up in my name and now this other guy is ticked about it and wont do anything with it "until the title is in his hands and in his name" but he wont hand over the keys either. if he would have said, "since the car is on my property and i will probly be contributing the majority of the money for the project, i would feel better if the car was in my name" i might have done so, but since he decided to be a arrogant *** about it, im not inclined to do anything but get it back for myself, and use it as a daily driver in good weather and enter it in local cruise-ins/car shows. he wanted to make it a pro street, with a big motor, 6 speed manual, total suspention change, probly about 15-20 grand. i just want to fix the interior a little, put lower gears in the diff (dont know what they are now, but its doggy off the line, cruises nicely at 65 though, not roaring away, remeber, no overdrive, straight 3 speed auto here) i figure i'll have less then 5,000 in it easy, ive already scavanged some stuff from a '95 S-10 blazer. i just need to get the key. i may even sell the thing and let someone else worry about it, i hate to see it go to waste. i think the rear deck spoiler and the front hood trim is off a torino. it would be cool to have it in a show, how many granadas do you see any more? ive hardly ever seen a 2door. sure its not valuable, but i think its fairly rare. dont know that id get more than $500 out of it. the widow was supposed to ask for the key so she could get the rest of her deseased husbands stuff out, then give me the key, but she seems to have chickened out. wish i had better pictures, my box trailer was parked on one side and a chain link fence on the other. my trailer has since been removed, mainly due to tree branches that were scraping up the sides every time i went in or out with it. enough rambling, heres my granada pics: Name: june008.jpg

Seems like theres more to this story. we have no idea why your buddy thinks its his, and why you ended up with it. i would get rid of the rear spoiler, never seen those things on the hood either. the front end will always be ugly, but nice when fixed up. The keystones are pretty bad, if you can even find the washers for mounting anymore, lug nuts should be easier to find. Front bumper mount is bent, that usually happens when the mounts get rusted and soft. (dam bumper jacks). they were nice riding cars though. does it have A/C? could be a fun cruiser.

the widow wanted me and this other friend to have it to work on, "jamie" (the other guy involved who's property its sitting on) used to kid "bill" (the owner of the car who died) about taking his car from him and bill would say back "over my dead body" the 3 of us used to work on things together, mostly bill's stuff, he didnt have alot of mechanical knowledge but was willing to help and learn. why the car got put in my name, i dont know. it was actually titled in melody's (widow) fathers name for insurance reaons, i think he had a bit of a problem with jamies attitude and he had called me over to get the title transfered, i thought jamie was going to be there too, it was just me though and the title got put in my name. (i dont even know for sure if there is a possibility of joint ownership, used to be) it does ride nice, no a/c only real option is the automatic trans. odometer shows 19,000. its obviously at least 119,000 but who knows? could be its 2nd or 3rd time around the dials. was oringinally from new jersey. the rear unibody on the left side has alot of rust right before the rear spring hanger mount, but otherwise it seems pretty solid. i think melody's dad wanted it fixed up and sold and then the money gave to mel to buy a gravestone. i made bill a wood cross marker, he was a richard petty fan so its done up with a light blue front and rear face, edges done in bright red, and his name is in white letters, it was the most difficult thing ive ever made, and the project i was most satisfied with how its turned out. im thinking of putting it up for sale just the way it is and giving mel the cash, i really dont have the extra cash for the project, and im not going to "roll over" and sign the title to jamie. ive not really spoke much to him since he went off about the car. i do have the lugs and washers for the front keystones, they had been took off to get cleaned up shortly before bill died. he wasnt quite dead when the car came to a stop in the field, someone stopped, put the car in park and got him out, tried to do cpr but bill was gone by the time the helicopter got to the scene. i was asked to bring it back from where it was, 40 miles away, he was within sight of work. i was worried he had actually died in the car and the possible mess there would be. im glad that wasnt the case. for not having power brakes it sure stops good, must not weigh alot.

i think you should put in what ever time and effort, to make the car run and drive as good as it can. sell the car and give the money to mel, im sure she can use it.

go down to the local bar, find the biggest guys you can, and take them with you to go get the keys,
then sell that and get yourself some 4.10 gears.
