FML....!!
I've seen those in Montreal on the 15. There's a section that's 70 km/h (how gay is that) and two weeks ago (while down there for work), I seen a flash while driving......guess the car that passed me got their picture taken. First time I ever seen a photo radar.
Actually given the track record of those who have fought the tickets, you have a decent chance. those cameras are calibrated in such a way to make the city more money. therefore, whos to say the company which gets a cut from every ticket issued, issnt padding the radar? This was proven a few times acrossed the US, where radar cameras were busted for padding speeds. In a few instances the cameras would randomly select a car and then add 8mph to make it appear they were over when they werent. Using distance vs time, you can tell pretty accurately how fast the vehicle in question is travelling.
Also remember, a ticket is nothing more than a 'formal' accusation. Nothing more nothing less. the accusir, in this case a privately operated camera, is accusing you of doing something. If you blindly pay the fine you are admitting guilt and agreeing they are correct. However, if you fight it and say 'prove it' then you are saying 'wait a minute, I think your wrong'
Always fight a traffic ticket. ALWAYS. Under the law, you have a right to a trial by jury, you CAN request such, often times youll be denied that and instead get a trial by judge, at which time you can counter and put in saying that you disagree with the courts decison and blah blah blah, but you still get your trial, which costs more money for THEM. Point is, you DO have the right to go to trial for your ticket where you can call witnesses, both professional witnesses, experts and character witnesses to prove your case. the district will call their 'inspectors' who are generally privately contracted contractors who use propriety methods to calibrate the cameras...
either way, your turning something 'small' into a big deal which could prove to be in your favor. As of right now your on the hook for $190. if you go to trial, or even bring up that your thinking of trial, hell jsut show up, chances are the DA will reduce it to avoid the added financial burden of going to trial.
Most of you kids around here fail to realise that you CAN go to trial over a traffic ticket, I have done it. I was ill prepared, and wasnt 'up to speed' as far as this stuff and lost, however if that trial was replayed today, id win hands down.

valid point about fighting the ticket. but, he was only doing 13km over the limit, so no points, cause your not 20 over so its consider a minor. if you go to court and plead guilty, they will lower the fine, just be courteous and dress nice. helps to talk to the cop/justice of peace prior to the start. if you go with the fighting the ticket, get court dates set, get a lawyer and drag out this entire ordeal, you have to weight the costs. how much are you going to lose in wages for the time taken of work? how much for the lawyer, pretty sure they charge more then minimum wage per hour.... and if you lose, guess what, you are paying the ticket plus lawyer fees and you lost a couple days of work too.
I am after getting a few, one for burning a red light for 300 which i could have gotten dropped because it was 0.5 seconds over and it was slippery but i was speeding too so she said said I would have to go to court to have it dropped. 2 more for speeding that were around $150. Here you have to pay them before you can register your vehicle again, but if you pay them right away they are a little cheaper. As for someone asking about how do they know who is driving the vehicle? here they dont take any demerit points off your license, just a ticket for the registered owner of the vehicle.
And also If you actually go do Court to fight it and they wont drop it totally they will reduce it most of the time.

I am thinking about starting a petition that photo radar at traffic lights (almost every set in Sherwood Park) with flashes should be banned because the flashes are blinding/distractions and pose a safety hazard!! haha I approaching an intersection a few nights ago and someone sped through in the other direction and got flashed and the flash scared the living sh*t out of me.
