HAIL Carnage...
You can get the same batch, shoot it with the same gun, the same painter and have it be off. ANY metallic paint is like that. Its not unique to DSG.
Solids arent as particular. Thats why we tint and blend.
Old guys can do some great work, but just because a painter is young it doesnt mean he doesnt know what hes doing. We are doing lots of waterborne conversions here in CA and id rather have to deal with a young painter when it comes to training him how to use it than a stubborn old painter that refuses to learn something new.

'order paint'? I wouldnt use a shop that had to order paint. Most shops have mixing machines in their paint area. If they have to order paint, the chances for varients are way high. Using a vehicle VIN does not guarantee a match at all. If they dont have the ability to adjust a color on site, then they will more than likely try to half *** a repair to make it work.
as far as equipment goes, i don't know if this guy who painted mine has mixing machines in the back or not since i only walked into the doorway. i'm happy, it matches and that's all that matters to me.
i went to a couple places to get estimates and i can't remember wo said the paint is ordered. i do remember the same guy mentioned the serial number thing tho

mine broke a long time ago... :-( this just made it worse... btw says they are gonna Blend the paint so thats good?
Yes. Imagine like you were using photoshop. Theyll get the color as close as you can, and then they will blend that new color into the existing paint. It provides the best way to ensure that its a repair that wont be seen. If the transition from one color into another on the same panel is kept as gradual as possible, the repair will be hidden and not seen. If you cant tell they did anything, they did the job well.
I was washing my truck a few weeks ago and found a few dings on the hood and figured it had to be from hail. and looked around and found a few small ones on the hood I hadn't noticed, there was one on the hood i did notice and thought was a rock, and one on the door i thought was a door ding but could be from that as well. The top of my bedsides are beat up from loading bikes and stuff in the back so i wouldn't notice. So the first hailstorm this summer I am going to make a claim and get it repainted. Might paint it black.

We get sudden 5-10 minute hail storms every few weeks here in the summer. Its obviously hail damage, that i just never noticed when it happened because the truck was probably dirty. Or when i was on vacation, didn't know it hailed, and never knew to look for anything. Its not like they know when it happened. I work at a bodyshop and we do ALLOT of hail damaged vehicles. Its not playing the system at all! its what insurance is for!! it will just be less of a headache to make a claim when they are getting a few hundred hail claims at the same time.

I could if i wanted to. But i have full coverage on my truck for a reason. I could fix all the dings pretty quickly but would still need to get half the truck painted! and why am i going to pay for that myself when pay for insurance every month for these reasons.. that's just dumb. And i will strip the truck and fix the dents myself so i can use the insurance money to prep and paint the whole thing. I have been planning on painting it black eventually anyways as soon as i had an excuse to put an orbital to the nice shiny factory paint. Why would i go through the trouble of repainting it twice??
not even half the truck. would be the whole thing by the time it was all blended.

when did i ever make a bogus claim on my insurance? How am i not being a man? im telling him to do the honest right thing and not play the system. Just so he can paint your truck, when he can do it yourself.
Making a insurance claim for legitimate damage, that is covered under your policy is not working the system! My boss who as worked in this industry for 30 years told me to to the exact same thing when i asked him about it. Im done with justifying it, im not taking advice from a 19 year old who obviously dosnt have a clue what he's talking about.
