new truck... maybe

well guys, i know this is very weird coming from me, everyone who knows me, im a ford 4x4 guy all the way, and i would just like to say that i love fords. but i came across this truck. heres the story.

we get all kinds of donation vehicles in my autoshop class at school. well, this one came in and i fell in love at fir5st site, i dont know why. maybe it was the 350? or the long bed of a fullsize pickup? maybe it was the carbuartion and little rust it has on it? probably all of these. it also has a full bench seat which i love too. heres the things. my auto shop teacher said that if i bought all the parts for this truck, fixed it to where i can drive it home, its mine. im thinking it just needs a fuel pump, and i gotta pay for the battery and tune up kit on it, rebuild the rochester 4 barrel, and its mine, home free.

oh, i forgot to mention, its a chevy. a 1987 chevrolet c10, 2wd... and i am going to be getting this truck as soon as its done, all for less than 300 bucks.

it needs some minor body work, alot of surface rust on the hood, cracked up windshield and some of the bed got dented from fender benders. all the fancy vinyl chrome trim on the side, the fake stuff, is peeling off so im going to rip it all off. going to redo the interior, outfit it with a saddle blanket bench seat cover and maybe a carpeted dash.

i will get more pics of the engine and interior and undercarriage when i get it on the lift later on next week, heres some pics for now.

last but not least, my dad gave me 2 choices. i can keep my 1998 ford ranger and not get the c10, or i can give the ranger back to him and take the c10. i think i made a good choice, giving up my 4x4, efi v6 ranger for a 2wd, carbuated v8 chevy.

(dont mind the kid in the pic, thats my best friend cody who is helping me fix the truck.)

"chrome dont get ya home"

im going to fix it and drive it everyday, no special fancy crap to make it look pretty, im going to fix the engine, get a new grille, new windshield, new tires and when i get the engine fixed, going to get a set of headers for it.

i aint baggin it, i hate that with a passion, they look great but thats very expensive to do and its rough on the frame. ive seen frames snap in half cuz of "baggin" it. keep it stock and roiginal.

I wouldn't go for it. I wouldn't give up your Ranger for that. But that's just me.

nice man. my dad had a 74 black single cab long bed, dual exhaust with factory mufflers, 350 with 3 on the tree. I wish to this day he wouldn't have sold it for the 95 Sierra he has now.

do what makes you happy. If I was in your shoes, I'd let my Ranger go to be driving a Chevy fullsize from that generation..."There's no replacement for displacement!"

i think im going to go for it guys, i have heard nothing but good things on 3 different forums that i have asked for advice, and the answer is the same. "350s are easy to work on and easy to find parts for" i like it looking like it does, i definanlty gotta fix the windshield and i definantly gotta get a nice used grille for it, and then im going to rebuild the rochester 4 barrel and then put some headers on it, maybe a supercharger if i can afford it.
