so I started the truck up for the first time after rebuilding it. Took a second to fire but it started up. About 10 seconds into it running it through about at least a quart of oil if not more on the ground and just about everywhere within 5 feet of it. Oil pan shows no sign of leaking. It all came from the front of the motor, not sure if it came from the crank or the oil pump. I’m thinking it’s the oil pump. But why would it throw out so much oil like that? The oil gauge read normal before it shitted itself

It is a 2001 2.5l automatic. I ended up pulling the sprocket for the oil pump off and behind it was completely dry, which leads me to believe it’s somewhere around the crank. The guy at the machine shop that I had clean and bore the block installed the crank and the seals.

Out of curiosity, to change the front seal, do I have to remove the engine? I know I’ve got to pull the timing belt and all that good stuff off. Also if I pull the seal with a few quarts of oil in it will oil start draining from where the seal was?

I’m not at home to look at the book and couldn’t find much online for my truck, but I know I can get access to that area with it in place. I remember some kind of plate that goes on the front of the block by the gear behind the harmonic balancer but I don’t remember if that has to come off to remove the gear. If that’s the case then more than likely it will have to come out.

Can anyone explain the installation of the timing cover gasket? Have a hunch, I’ve looked into it a little bit but didn’t know there was a special way to install it?
