The only problem is the 44 is a chevy 44 :/ but I might buy it and sell the dana 300 and take the high steer arms off the chevy axle and use that money to buy a ford 44 ..... or somthig. I just need to find axles fast because my 8.8 just blew up and that forces me to drive my 69 bronco that gets probibly 8 mpg ..... so I need the ranger back asap

so i bought my axles on sunday well at least i bought one..... the guy said he had a ford and a chevy dana 44 but he had 2 chevy dana 44s so i may use the parts off the chevy axle and buy a ford dana 44 housing, the dana 44 came with cromo shafts, high steer arms, 5:13 gears, lock right locker, and 5 on 5.5 bolt.
the ford 9inch has 35 cromo shafts, 5:13 gears, detroit locker, and a torque arm, also 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern
i also got four 17x9 bead locks (17x8 soft steels with DIY bead locks)
now if i remember correctly i can use everything out of the chevy 44 and put it in a ford 44 housing except the gears correct? a speedy response would be greatly appreciated so i can get these ready to go under my truck
Thanks guys
-Andy

Finished up the 9" yesterday and started on the 44
im glad im not using any of the lockers and gears from the 44 because the lockright looks like its toast! The pins that the springs push appear to be snapped and the bits are stuck in between the 2 halts my dad was wanting to use it on his DD.. and I told him he shouldn't but he is deturmined to.. is there a rebuild kit for them? And if so dose anyone have the part number?
Thanks

Just slow down man. Your trying to rush into this for some reason and your gunna spend soooo much extra time and money. It takes most people a year or more for a complete Sas. Gathering parts being the majority of that time. As far as I can see, the only good purchase you've made is the 9in and some beadlocks. And you paid a pretty penny. The gm axle is probably completely useless to you. I'm not 100% sure on this but i doubt any of the gm parts will swap right into a ford axle housing. You need to start googling b4 you go any further.

I have a GM axle that is drivers side drop that they use to do the 4wd van conversions with... this is the axle I will be using... im just taking from the Cs out from the original chevy axle and outing it on the van axle... the van axle is also 3" wider than the Ford 77 axle... I will be selling the left over chevy stuff to my buddy who has a cj5 so all my money that was "waisted" will be made up...
Also my ranger is not running because the 8.8 faileed on me so this forces me to drive my 69 bronco that gets 7 mpg....this and the fact that I've been working on it for over 8 months is the reason I am trying to get it done asap!
Other than that thanks for your guys help!!

My swap took me at max, 2 months from the start of the parts gathering, to getting all the bugs worked out (minus a front driveline). If you know what you're doing and what to look for, its not hard at all or even that time consuming. Just pay attention to everything first go around and watch for deals.

i have i have found a 77 ford dana 44 and 9" for $200, the only thing that has me scratching my head is if i want to ues that axle or use the GM van axle that is 3in wider..... plus my dad bought me 5:13 gears for the 9" and the chevy axle so i kinda want to use the van axle because it will let me use the gears he bought... the only down side i see is it being lo pinion vs the fords hi pinion.. any opinions?

I would ask the seller if he'll take $100 or $125 for the front d44. Then you could possibly sell your chevy front w/the 5.13's your dad bought. But then again you gotta weigh your options....Your chevy axle is completely built. The Ford may have cast in radius arms and c's. That ford is stock i'm assuming? So you would have to spend some cash to get it right. And how many people are looking for a chevy driver drop? idk. lol But someone would buy it. And does the lug pattern match? In the end it seems like maybe keeping your axles you have now is a wise decision but idk. Personally, I would be keeping what you have. It sounds like your ready to go.

a 77 dana 44 and 9 inch with welded radius arms and C's for $300 and he wont separate...
so thats the predicament im in choosing which set i want the 44 and 9 in would be nice cuz i may have extra parts if they are the right spline and what not. but money is so tight right now with prom and stuff that i want to just get the truck running, but then again i wanna do it right...
