SAS Questions

ok so i broke a cv shaft today...and my baljoints are bad and my wheel bearings and my rugged ridge hubs are stripped out so i am serioulsy thinking about a SAS so here are my questions...

1. i have a early bronco dana 30 at my house...would i have to notch the frame to run a coil set up? and would the radias arm mounts be usable with the ranger frame width? or would i have to make the mounts not directly under the frame?

2. if i did leaf from what i understand having the shackle in the back is better because the axle moves back...but the pinion angle is harder to get right. also the ranger frame is higher in the front so either you have to drop the front mounts a lot or the leafs arent flat....also if i used a waggy axle would i have to turn the c's? what about with a late 70's f-150 axle? those are also high pinion right? are they both about the same width?

3. if i put the shackles in the front it makes the leafs more flat right?..and also the pinion angle easier. but the axle goes forward when it goes up. is that the only downside?

4. what about using leafs on a EB axle? good? bad? i know where a EB d44 wiht the wedges already cut off is for sale i think? would this be a good start?...but it is drum...i have a 1989 ford bronco with the ttb in my back yard. can i just take the knuckles off that and make it disc? what about on the dana 30?

5. also what about with a jeep dana 30. with a long arm kit it should make it pretty easy. kinda like radius arms i guess. would i have to notch the frame for that? is the ranger frame close enough to use all the mounts on the jeep axle?

these are all my questions for now...just trying to get some more info...sorry if i didnt search enough jsut trying to get all the info i one place and weigh my options...

i was thinking about a set up like Matt's..99ranger or somthing like that...(cant think of his exact user name ATM)...is that good?

better carry spare cv's now cause that won't be the last one that goes especially with a locker up front

actually this time was kinda a freak accident.... a wile a go i broke off my passenger side bumpstop and the superlift drop piece for it.....didnt think any thing of it and couldnt find it so i left it alone and was planning on making somthing else or doing a dirrerent style of bump stops...any way i didnt even think about that the bolt that holds the bumpstop on on that side also bolts a bracket in place that stops the diff from moving side to side with the shackle like drop brackets that come with the lift....so what happened was the diff move way over to the pass side (like an inch) and compressed the pass CV axle and over extended the driver one....causing it to pop out and go through the boot when i hit hte gas comming out of a big hole....so if it breaks again it wont be the same way cause i put a new bolt in holding that bracket...but i dont doubt ill break one withthe locker...lol

well after looking at it more it appears to be a TJ axle...the guy i bought it from said it was out of a 1992 XJ...but from looking on line the XJ axles are high pinion and this one is definatly low pinion....wierd...

mine looks just like the one on the left...

idk about that....i just bought a locker for my dana 35....and i got superlift to send me some limit straps for free...so i dont have to worry as much about breaking CV's...and i just put a new CV in it...so i think ill wait a wile before SASing it.....i just bought this because it was only $40....too bad its LP tho...

exactly....lol

it might just end up being a spare for my dads 1998 TJ..but really it is what is in practically every wrangler on the road and they seem to work good...and if i set it up it will basically be a jeep front end and could take any jeep axle and bolt it in in half an hour....so it would be a good starting point. and easy to swap out later. i also dont want to go very high...i want to stay at about the same height and just run my brand new 32's for a wile. so the LP isnt a super big deal...and i can always go higher in the future if i wanted and i could put in a rubicon d44...idk....its about 1200 or so for all the parts i need minus the steering box. and one of my buddies has a SAS ranger with that same axle so all the measurements are done for me. and it has 3.73's which is the same as my gears now so basically i could throw it in and have a straight axle and be set up to put in a better axle and regear later down the road.....or i might just live with the ifs, put in the locker i just bought and look for a better axle and set them up so when i put it in, it will be done right.....both would be about the same money because i wouldnt be doing any thing to this axle and i got it for $40 and i could put something better in down the road...idk...just thinking out loud....
