coil over dual rate springs?

Has anyone looked seriously at going the dual rate spring route on their coil over conversion?

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 5.0 (stock height) and think I will have to go with the 800lb springs because of the added weight of the v8.

I see references on-line that dual rate springs can be used (It basically loos like 2 x 5" springs can be mated together with hardware that's included with the shocks.

This makes me think that it would be cool to mate 2 spring rates together and get a nice plush ride, and become more firm as the travel increased. This is 99.9% street driven.

Thing is, I can't see any springs under 10 inches that have the carrying capacity I need. Id think I'd need Maybe 750/800 springs.

Am I out to lunch on my thinking here? Will the dual rate spring idea really not help ride quality, and just make for more spring compression from the weight of the truck?
I guess I'm not quite understanding this progressive spring thing. Even the non-progressive spring I'm looking at shows its 800lbs initially, and 3913 lbs compressed. Maybe I'm over thinking this.

The shock used for the coilover conversion is too small for dual rate. 10" length shocks are usually the smallest that have a dual rate set up, and even then it's just using a 5 or 6" top spring that's compressed at ride height so it's not true dual rate.
